Copper prices are on track to record weekly gains in global markets, supported by strong signs of recovering demand in China, which helped absorb the impact of the hawkish statements issued by the Federal Reserve regarding the possibility of continued interest rate hikes.
The index measuring Chinese demand for imported copper, the "Yangshan Premium," rose to $121 per ton yesterday (Thursday), marking its highest level since October 2022, up from $85 at the end of last week, according to Western media outlets.
Despite the stability of red metal prices on the London Metal Exchange, they are on track to achieve weekly gains over the past 12 weeks, in an upward trend that pushed copper prices to record levels earlier this month.
