In a surprise visit to Nabatieh, Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun arrived today (Saturday) accompanied by Army Commander General Rudolf Haikal and security agency leaders, at a time when the south is witnessing an Israeli escalation and threats to expand strikes, and he inspected a number of sites damaged by Israeli attacks.
During the visit, Aoun confirmed that "there are no new negotiations with Israel at the moment," emphasizing that Israel's withdrawal, the return of prisoners and displaced persons, and reconstruction are "national constants" that the state is working to achieve.

In his meeting with a number of Nabatieh residents, Aoun assured them that the state is alongside them, saying: "We will never leave you," and pointing to efforts to secure safety and necessary services to help residents stay in their city.
Aoun's visit to Nabatieh comes amid recent Israeli threats, as Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced Israel's readiness "to continue the campaign and persist in striking Hezbollah in additional locations," following a wide-scale destruction of underground infrastructure in Ali al-Taher Hill, in addition to demolition operations that affected other areas in the south, including the town of Mansouri.

The visit also comes amid the postponement of the next round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, which was scheduled to take place in Rome, to October according to an American official.
Nabatieh had witnessed, a few days ago, the "Second Call of Nabatieh," in which hundreds of the city's residents demanded the immediate deployment of the army to Nabatieh and its surroundings and the reinforcement of state institutions' presence, amid the Israeli military escalation and fears of expanded targeting.
