تاريخ طويل من مطاردة «أشباح» المقاومة في قطاع غزة، وانتهى الفصل الأخير منه في منتصف الليل بسيناريو لم يكن أحد يتوقعه. رجل عاش سنواته تحت الأرض، ونجا من أطنان الصواريخ التي دمرت الأنفاق فوق رأسه ورأس كبار قادة حركة حماس، ليسقط في النهاية صريعاً على جانب الطريق في منطقة «المواصي» بخان يونس، صريع صاروخين أطلقتهما طائرة مسيّرة إسرائيلية. فمن هو هذا القائد الصيد، وكيف تحول إلى أشلاء في هجوم غادر؟
القتيل هو محمد اليازوري (أبو الهيثم)، القائد العام لـ«لواء خان يونس» في كتائب القسام، وأحد أبرز العقول الأمنية في المقاومة الفلسطينية. لم تكن هذه المرة الأولى التي يوضع فيها اليازوري على قائمة التصفية، ففي عام 2021 خلال معركة «سيف القدس»، قصفت الطائرات الحربية الإسرائيلية نفقاً مركزياً في خان يونس بأطنان من الصواريخ لتدمر جزءاً كبيراً منه. كان النفق يضم «المربع الذهبي» لقيادة القسام: يحيى السنوار، ومحمد السنوار، ورافع سلامة، ومحمد اليازوري.
يومها، خرج الجميع من تحت الركام أحياء بمعجزة، ليعود «أبو الهيثم» إلى الميدان أشد حذراً وأكثر توارياً عن الأنظار. وقبل أن يتولى قيادة لواء خان يونس خلفاً لسلفيه عز الدين الحداد ومحمد عودة في مايو الماضي، كان اليازوري يمسك بأخطر مفاصل القسام، إذ أدار جهاز الاستخبارات لسنوات، وكان العقل الذي جمع ورسم الخرائط والمعلومات الأمنية الحساسة التي استُخدمت في التخطيط للهجوم الكبير في 7 أكتوبر 2023. ولم يتوقف دوره عند هذا الحد، بل كان من القيادات الميدانية القليلة التي أشرفت بنفسها على ملف الأسرى الإسرائيليين وتنسيق عمليات تسليمهم خلال صفقات التبادل.
وبعد ضربة إسرائيل في العتمة، تبرز المفارقة المدوية التي كشفتها مصادر ميدانية ومفادها أن تل أبيب ربما لم تكن تعلم بوجود اليازوري في هذا الشارع! فالغارة التي وقعت قرب مسجد «القبة» كانت تستهدف بالأساس رفيقه في السير حذيفة أبو معمر، المهندس المتخصص في تطوير القدرات العسكرية للقسام. وعندما قصفت المسيّرة الرجلين، تحول جثمان اليازوري إلى أشلاء مشوهة تعذّر التعرف عليها حتى ساعات الفجر الأولى، ليكتشف الشارع الفلسطيني والإسرائيلي لاحقاً أن ضربة عشوائية أسقطت واحداً من أثقل القادة الاستخباريين في تاريخ غزة.
A long history of chasing the "ghosts" of resistance in the Gaza Strip culminated in a final chapter at midnight with a scenario no one expected. A man who lived underground for years, surviving tons of rockets that destroyed the tunnels above him and the heads of senior Hamas leaders, ultimately fell victim to two missiles fired by an Israeli drone on the side of the road in the "Mawasi" area of Khan Younis. So who is this commander, and how did he turn to pieces in a treacherous attack?
The deceased is Muhammad Al-Yazouri (Abu Al-Haytham), the overall commander of the "Khan Younis Brigade" in the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, and one of the most prominent security minds in the Palestinian resistance. This was not the first time Al-Yazouri was placed on the assassination list; during the 2021 "Sword of Jerusalem" battle, Israeli warplanes bombed a central tunnel in Khan Younis with tons of rockets, destroying a large part of it. The tunnel housed the "golden square" of the Qassam leadership: Yahya Sinwar, Muhammad Sinwar, Raef Salama, and Muhammad Al-Yazouri.
That day, everyone miraculously emerged alive from the rubble, and "Abu Al-Haytham" returned to the field with heightened caution and more concealment. Before taking over the leadership of the Khan Younis Brigade following his predecessors Izz al-Din al-Haddad and Muhammad Awda last May, Al-Yazouri held some of the most critical positions within the Qassam Brigades, having managed the intelligence apparatus for years. He was the mind that gathered and mapped out sensitive security information used in planning the major attack on October 7, 2023. His role did not stop there; he was also one of the few field leaders who personally oversaw the file of Israeli prisoners and coordinated their handover during exchange deals.
After the Israeli strike in the darkness, a shocking paradox emerged from field sources indicating that Tel Aviv might not have known about Al-Yazouri's presence on that street! The raid that took place near the "Quba" mosque primarily targeted his companion, Huwaida Abu Ma'mar, an engineer specializing in developing the military capabilities of the Qassam Brigades. When the drone struck the two men, Al-Yazouri's body was turned into disfigured pieces that were unrecognizable until the early hours of dawn, leading the Palestinian and Israeli streets to later discover that a random strike had taken down one of the heaviest intelligence leaders in Gaza's history.
