وصف المبعوث الخاص للرئيس الأمريكي ستيف ويتكوف اليوم (الأحد) مناقشاته مع الرئيس الأوكراني فولوديمير زيلينسكي في العاصمة كييف بـ«الجوهرية والمهمة»، وذلك عقب انتهاء الجولة الأولى من المناقشات.
وأوضح ويتكوف في مؤتمر صحفي في كييف أن الفريق الأمريكي يشعر بتشجيع كبير، فيما صهر الرئيس الأمريكي جاريد كوشنر أشار إلى أن الوفد يتطلع إلى إحراز مزيد من التقدم في محادثات السلام الرامية إلى إنهاء الحرب في أوكرانيا.
من جانبه، قال زيلينسكي إن محادثات أوكرانيا مع مفاوضي السلام الأمريكيين ستيف ويتكوف وجاريد كوشنر كانت «مثمرة للغاية»، مبيناً أن المحادثات تناولت الضمانات الأمنية والاقتصادية لأوكرانيا، إضافة إلى إمدادات الصواريخ المخصصة للدفاع الجوي وحزمة دعم خلال الشتاء.
وعبر زيلينسكي عن أمله في أن تستأنف قريباً المحادثات الثلاثية التي تضم أوكرانيا وروسيا والولايات المتحدة.
وأفاد الوفد المفاوض الأوكراني بأن زيلينسكي وكوشنر وويتكوف سيعقدون اجتماعاً لاحقاً مع مسؤولين أمنيين أوروبيين، في إطار المشاورات بشأن مسار الحرب والجهود الدبلوماسية المرتبطة بها.
وكان المبعوثان الأمريكيان وصلا إلى العاصمة الأوكرانية كييف قادمين من موسكو، حيث التقيا الرئيس الروسي فلاديمير بوتين، وسط مساعٍ أمريكية لإنهاء حرب أوكرانيا.
وكان مستشار الكرملين يوري أوشاكوف قال أمس إن بوتين أجرى محادثات استمرت أكثر من 3 ساعات مع ويتكوف وكوشنر ضمن جهود التوصل إلى اتفاق ينهي الحرب في أوكرانيا، واصفاً المناقشات بأنها «مفيدة للغاية»، موضحاً أن ويتكوف وكوشنر طرحا عدداً من الأفكار بشأن السبل المحتملة للتوصل إلى تسوية.
The special envoy of the American president, Steve Witkoff, described today (Sunday) his discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the capital Kyiv as "substantive and important," following the conclusion of the first round of talks.
Witkoff clarified in a press conference in Kyiv that the American team feels greatly encouraged, while President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner indicated that the delegation looks forward to making further progress in the peace talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
For his part, Zelensky stated that the talks between Ukraine and the American peace negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were "extremely fruitful," noting that the discussions addressed security and economic guarantees for Ukraine, in addition to missile supplies designated for air defense and a support package for the winter.
Zelensky expressed hope that the trilateral talks involving Ukraine, Russia, and the United States would soon resume.
The Ukrainian negotiating delegation reported that Zelensky, Kushner, and Witkoff would hold a later meeting with European security officials as part of consultations regarding the course of the war and the associated diplomatic efforts.
The American envoys had arrived in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv from Moscow, where they met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, amid American efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
Kremlin advisor Yuri Ushakov stated yesterday that Putin held talks lasting more than 3 hours with Witkoff and Kushner as part of efforts to reach an agreement to end the war in Ukraine, describing the discussions as "very useful," explaining that Witkoff and Kushner presented a number of ideas regarding potential ways to reach a settlement.
