Despite Iran's warnings of a "strong response" to any Israeli attack on the strategic heights, the Israeli army is moving forward with its military operation at the Ali al-Tahir hill in southern Lebanon.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated today (Friday) that the recent operation to seize the Ali al-Tahir hill in southern Lebanon is a key step in consolidating Israeli presence in the areas it occupies in southern Lebanon. He clarified in a statement published by the "Times of Israel" that the Ali al-Tahir heights were the last command site of Hezbollah for defending Nabatieh in southern Lebanon. Katz reiterated that the Israeli army will not withdraw from southern Lebanon until Hezbollah is disarmed throughout Lebanon, indicating that control of the strategic Ali al-Tahir hill, announced on Thursday, represents a critically important step towards achieving this goal. He added that the Israeli army will now finish neutralizing these tunnels and bolster its forces on the heights to prevent the enemy from re-establishing itself in the area. The Ali al-Tahir heights are located near the city of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon and hold strategic importance due to their oversight of vast areas of southern Lebanon.
The Israeli army had previously announced today that it had taken control of Hezbollah positions and destroyed its underground infrastructure at the Ali al-Tahir heights, explaining that it is still working to "neutralize" these facilities, which include two main routes, and no confirmation has been issued from the Lebanese side or Hezbollah on the matter.
Reports indicated the presence of elements from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and "Hezbollah" within a network of tunnels in the area, while Israeli reports confirm that Tel Aviv is preparing to resume comprehensive warfare. The "New York Times" reported that Iran warned the United States (on Thursday), in a message via Oman, that Israeli control over the strategic heights would constitute a crossing of a "red line." The newspaper quoted an Iranian official and a member of the Revolutionary Guard as saying that Tehran stated it would respond strongly if the attack continued, while three officials in the region told "Reuters" that Tehran threatened in its message to Washington that any comprehensive Israeli attack on the hill would be met with a wide-ranging Iranian response.
