أعلن وزير الخارجية البريطاني إد ميليباند اليوم (الثلاثاء)، عزم بلاده طرح حزمة «إجراءات شاملة» بشأن المستوطنات الإسرائيلية في الضفة الغربية المحتلة خلال الأسابيع القادمة.
وأبلغ وزير الخارجية البريطاني، أعضاء البرلمان بأن مخطط E1 الاستيطاني سيقطع مساحة من الأرض التي يسعى الفلسطينيون لإقامة دولتهم عليها، ويهدد بجعل قيام دولة فلسطينية أمراً غير قابل للتنفيذ.
وقال ميليباند: «لن تقبل حكومة بريطانيا بتقويض حل الدولتين، وسنتحرك، وسأعلن مجموعة شاملة من الإجراءات خلال الأسابيع القادمة».
وكان رئيس الوزراء البريطاني آندي بيرنام قد قال قبل توليه منصبه بأنه يدرس اتخاذ إجراءات لحظر تجارة السلع مع المستوطنات غير الشرعية.
في المقابل، هدد وزير الخارجية الإسرائيلي جدعون ساعر بالرد بـ«إجراءات» حال قررت لندن ذلك.
وقال ساعر في تصريحات لصحيفة «يديعوت أحرونوت» الإسرائيلية: «إذا اتخذت بريطانيا إجراءات ضد إسرائيل فسنتخذ إجراءات ضد بريطانيا، ولدينا الأدوات اللازمة لذلك».
وتنتقد بريطانيا ودول أوروبية أخرى خطط إسرائيل، وموجة التصعيد المتواصلة ضد الفلسطينيين في الضفة الغربية التي تشمل سبع مناطق، محذرين من انفجار الأوضاع.
يذكر أن نحو ثلث أعضاء مجلس العموم البريطاني المنتمين إلى حزب العمال الحاكم وعددهم 140 نائباً، وقعوا في يونيو الماضي رسالة تدعو إلى فرض حظر على التجارة مع المستوطنات الإسرائيلية، وردت الحكومة في يوليو الماضي بأنها تعمل على فرض حظر على الواردات والصادرات من وإلى المستوطنات الإسرائيلية غير القانونية.
وعارضت لندن إقامة المستوطنات الإسرائيلية في مناطق من بينها الضفة الغربية، معتبرةً إياها انتهاكاً للقانون الدولي وتهديداً لحل الدولتين بين إسرائيل والفلسطينيين.
وشهدت المستوطنات توسعاً سريعاً خلال السنوات الأخيرة، مع إعلان الحكومة الإسرائيلية خططاً لإنشاء المزيد منها، فضلاً عن تصعيد هجمات المستوطنين على الفلسطينيين بشكل متزايد.
وجدد الاتحاد الأوروبي دعواته لإسرائيل إلى الامتناع عن توسيع المستوطنات في الضفة الغربية المحتلة، معتبراً أن ذلك يساهم في تقويض فرص قيام حل الدولتين.
The British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband announced today (Tuesday) the intention of his country to propose a package of "comprehensive measures" regarding Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank in the coming weeks.
The British Foreign Secretary informed members of Parliament that the E1 settlement plan would cut off a piece of land that Palestinians seek to establish their state on, threatening to make the establishment of a Palestinian state unfeasible.
Miliband said: "The British government will not accept undermining the two-state solution, and we will take action, and I will announce a comprehensive set of measures in the coming weeks."
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham had stated before taking office that he was considering taking measures to ban trade in goods with illegal settlements.
In response, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar threatened to respond with "measures" if London decided to do so.
Sa'ar said in statements to the Israeli newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth": "If Britain takes measures against Israel, we will take measures against Britain, and we have the necessary tools for that."
Britain and other European countries criticize Israel's plans and the ongoing escalation against Palestinians in the West Bank, which includes seven areas, warning of an explosion of the situation.
It is noteworthy that about a third of the British House of Commons members belonging to the ruling Labour Party, numbering 140 MPs, signed a letter last June calling for a ban on trade with Israeli settlements. The government responded in July that it was working to impose a ban on imports and exports to and from illegal Israeli settlements.
London has opposed the establishment of Israeli settlements in areas including the West Bank, considering them a violation of international law and a threat to the two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians.
Settlements have seen rapid expansion in recent years, with the Israeli government announcing plans to create more of them, in addition to an increasing escalation of settler attacks on Palestinians.
The European Union has renewed its calls for Israel to refrain from expanding settlements in the occupied West Bank, considering that this contributes to undermining the prospects for a two-state solution.
