U.S. President Donald Trump announced today (Tuesday) that his country is launching significant and powerful strikes against Iran, threatening a much stronger and harsher response if Iran retaliates to the attack now.
Trump wrote on his platform "Truth Social": The United States, at this moment, is targeting Iranian sites near the Strait of Hormuz.
He stated, "The strikes are significant and powerful, in response to the failed attempt by the Iranians to add naval mines to the strait, which currently has no mines, as all have been removed or detonated! Additionally, in response to the Iranians launching 8 missiles towards our military base in Jordan, all of which were successfully intercepted."
Trump added: If Iran, the failed state, responds to this highly justified attack, it will be targeted again with a much stronger and harsher level, but that will not be the largest attack ever, clarifying that the larger attack is still "pending," and when it concludes, very little of Iran will remain.
This comes at a time when an American official, speaking to the American site "Axios," anticipated that U.S. forces would carry out about 100 airstrikes against targets in Iran tonight, explaining that each time Iran targets an oil tanker, an Iranian oil tanker will be bombed in return.
For his part, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed today (Tuesday) his concern over the devastating humanitarian and economic repercussions of the conflict related to Iran and the region.
Guterres emphasized during his meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, the urgent need to resolve the conflict through dialogue and negotiations, calling for "full respect for international law, including the rights and freedoms of international navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and around it."
The Secretary-General reiterated the UN's commitment to supporting all diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive and lasting solution to the conflict in the Middle East.
For its part, Israel raised its readiness from a state of alert to the maximum, and according to Israeli broadcasting authority, there are preparations in the regional countries for a possible Iranian response.
In contrast, the Deputy Governor of Sistan and Baluchestan stated that 4 projectiles hit the vicinity of the cities of Chabahar and Konarak in southeastern Iran.
On another note, the International Atomic Energy Agency expressed its concern over the lack of progress in the Iran file, stating that its inability to verify uranium stockpiles since the American and Israeli attacks in June 2025 remains a source of concern regarding nuclear proliferation.
