صعّد الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب هجومه على وسائل الإعلام الأمريكية، مهدداً مذيعة شبكة NBC كريستين ويلكر، بإبلاغ لجنة الاتصالات الفيدرالية الأمريكية (FCC) ضدها، على خلفية تعليق وصفه بأنه «تضليل متعمد» بشأن أداء مرشحين حظوا بدعمه في انتخابات التجديد النصفي.
تعليق يشعل غضب ترمب
وكانت ويلكر قد قالت، قبيل بث برنامجها «ميت ذا برس» أمس (الأحد)، إن ترمب «سيكون حاضراً بقوة» في انتخابات التجديد النصفي المقررة في نوفمبر، مشيرة إلى أنه دعم عدداً من المرشحين خلال الانتخابات التمهيدية للحزب الجمهوري، وأن نتائج هذا الدعم جاءت «متباينة».
وأثار استخدام كلمة «متباينة» غضب ترمب، الذي رد عبر منصته «تروث سوشال»، مؤكداً أن سجله في دعم المرشحين «بلا شك، هو أقوى تأييد في تاريخ السياسة».
«سيتم إبلاغ لجنة الاتصالات»
وقال ترمب: «بسبب هذا التضليل المتعمد، سيتم إبلاغ لجنة الاتصالات الفيدرالية لتوبيخها أو معاقبتها»، داعياً رئيس اللجنة بريندان كار إلى التعامل مع ما وصفه بـ«التهديد لبلادنا» على محمل الجد.
وفي منشور لاحق، واصل ترمب انتقاد استطلاعات الرأي التي تعتمد عليها المؤسسات الإعلامية، مختتماً رسالته بعبارة: «لجنة الاتصالات الفيدرالية إلى الإنقاذ!».
انتصارات وخسائر
وجاء هجوم ترمب رغم أن تصريحات ويلكر تضمنت الإشارة إلى انتصارات مهمة لمرشحين حظوا بدعمه، بينهم السيناتور دارلين غراهام في كارولاينا الجنوبية، والمدعي العام لولاية تكساس كين باكستون، الذي تغلب على السيناتور جون كورنين في الانتخابات التمهيدية للحزب الجمهوري، إضافة إلى جوليا ليتلو التي فازت بترشيح الحزب في لويزيانا لمقعد في مجلس الشيوخ.
في المقابل، خسر عدد من المرشحين الذين أيدهم ترمب في الانتخابات التمهيدية، بينهم مرشح الحزب لمنصب حاكم جورجيا بيرت جونز، ومرشح حاكم ولاية أيوا راندي فينسترا، والنائب الجمهوري عن فلوريدا كوري ميلز، إلى جانب مرشحين آخرين لمجلسي النواب والشيوخ ومناصب على مستوى الولايات.
وبحسب «واشنطن بوست»، كان أربعة مرشحين لمجلس النواب وستة مرشحين على مستوى الولايات ممن حصلوا على تأييد ترمب قد خسروا انتخاباتهم التمهيدية حتى الأحد.
«NBC» تدافع عن مذيعتها
وردت NBC News على تهديد ترمب ببيان مقتضب، قالت فيه: «كريستين من أفضل الكفاءات في هذا المجال، ونحن ندعمها».
ويأتي هجوم ترمب في ظل علاقة متوترة مع المؤسسات الإعلامية الأمريكية، إذ سبق له المطالبة باتخاذ إجراءات ضد شبكات تلفزيونية بسبب تغطيتها وبرامجها، فيما خاضت لجنة الاتصالات الفيدرالية، برئاسة كار، مواجهات متزايدة مع مؤسسات إعلامية.
وفي أغسطس، رفعت شبكة ABC وشركتها المالكة «ديزني» دعوى قضائية ضد اللجنة، متهمة إياها بانتهاك حقوقها الدستورية والتضييق على الشبكة بسبب محتواها الإعلامي.
U.S. President Donald Trump escalated his attack on American media, threatening NBC host Kristen Welker with a report to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) over a comment he described as "deliberate misinformation" regarding the performance of candidates he supported in the midterm elections.
Comment Ignites Trump's Anger
Welker had said, just before airing her show "Meet the Press" yesterday (Sunday), that Trump "will be strongly present" in the upcoming midterm elections scheduled for November, noting that he supported several candidates during the Republican primary elections, and that the results of this support were "mixed."
The use of the word "mixed" sparked Trump's anger, who responded via his platform "Truth Social," asserting that his record in supporting candidates "is undoubtedly the strongest endorsement in the history of politics."
"The FCC Will Be Notified"
Trump said: "Because of this deliberate misinformation, the Federal Communications Commission will be notified to reprimand or punish her," calling on the commission's chairman Brendan Carr to take what he described as a "threat to our country" seriously.
In a later post, Trump continued to criticize the polls relied upon by media organizations, concluding his message with the phrase: "FCC to the rescue!"
Victories and Losses
Trump's attack came despite Welker's remarks mentioning significant victories for candidates he supported, including Senator Lindsey Graham in South Carolina, and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who defeated Senator John Cornyn in the Republican primary, as well as Julia Letlow, who won the party's nomination in Louisiana for a Senate seat.
Conversely, several candidates endorsed by Trump in the primaries lost, including the party's gubernatorial candidate in Georgia, Burt Jones, Iowa gubernatorial candidate Randy Feenstra, and Republican Congressman Cory Mills from Florida, along with other candidates for the House and Senate and state-level positions.
According to the Washington Post, four House candidates and six state-level candidates who received Trump's endorsement had lost their primaries as of Sunday.
“NBC” Defends Its Host
NBC News responded to Trump's threat with a brief statement, saying: "Kristen is one of the best talents in the field, and we support her."
Trump's attack comes amid a tense relationship with American media organizations, as he has previously called for actions against television networks due to their coverage and programming, while the FCC, led by Carr, has faced increasing confrontations with media organizations.
In August, ABC Network and its parent company Disney filed a lawsuit against the commission, accusing it of violating its constitutional rights and targeting the network due to its media content.
