لم تنفع سنوات التخفي الطويلة التي تجاوزت ثماني سنوات في حماية مطلوب أمني من قبضة العدالة في محافظة بابل العراقية؛ إذ أسفرت المتابعة الميدانية عن الإيقاع بمتهم رئيسي متورط في جريمة اعتداء تعود جذورها إلى 2018، ليُغلق بذلك الستار على آخر فصول قضية هزت الشارع المحلي قبل سنوات.
بدأت خيوط القضية بالترابط تدريجياً حين استهدف ثلاثة جناة حدثاً واعتدوا عليه قبل أن يلوذوا بالفرار، وهو ما دفع المحكمة في 2020 إلى إصدار أحكام غيابية ضدهم بالسجن لمدة 15 عاماً. وحينها، اعتمدت الأجهزة الأمنية على تقنيات التحليل الرقمي وتتبع الهواتف وحسابات التواصل الاجتماعي، ما أثمر سابقاً عن الإيقاع باثنين من الجناة عبر كمائن محكمة، وبقي المتهم الثالث هارباً ومتوارياً عن الأنظار طوال تلك السنوات، إلى أن أسفرت معلومات دقيقة قدمها أحد رجال الأمن عن رصد مخبئه، لتداهمه قوة أمنية منهية رحلة هروبه تمهيداً لتأييد الحكم الغيابي الصادر بحقه ونيل جزائه العادل.
ونجحت الأجهزة الأمنية في بابل في مايو الماضي بالقبض على متهم آخر ظل فاراً لنحو 21 عاماً إثر جريمة قتل وتزوير شهادة وفاته للتخلص من الملاحقة القانونية، في رسالة واضحة بأن الزمن لا يسقط الجرائم ولا يحصّن الهاربين من طائلة القانون.
The long years of hiding, which exceeded eight years, did not protect a wanted security suspect from the grip of justice in Babil province, Iraq; as field monitoring led to the capture of a main suspect involved in an assault crime dating back to 2018, thus closing the curtain on the last chapters of a case that shook the local community years ago.
The threads of the case began to intertwine gradually when three perpetrators targeted a minor and assaulted him before fleeing, which prompted the court in 2020 to issue absentia sentences against them of 15 years in prison. At that time, security forces relied on digital analysis techniques and tracking of phones and social media accounts, which previously resulted in the capture of two of the perpetrators through well-planned ambushes, while the third suspect remained at large and hidden from sight all those years, until precise information provided by a security officer led to the detection of his hideout, allowing security forces to raid it, ending his escape in preparation for upholding the absentia sentence issued against him and receiving his just punishment.
In May of last year, security forces in Babil successfully arrested another suspect who had been on the run for about 21 years following a murder and the forgery of his death certificate to evade legal prosecution, sending a clear message that time does not erase crimes nor shield fugitives from the reach of the law.
