The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the stance of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi regarding relations with Beirut, welcoming his eagerness to establish good relations with the Lebanese government. However, it emphasized that relations between countries are built through official institutions, not through "parties" or "factions" within them.
The ministry stated in a statement that it welcomes Araghchi's eagerness to establish good relations with the Lebanese government, affirming that Lebanon has always sought, and continues to seek, to establish the best relations with all countries, including Iran.
It clarified that Lebanon has always relied on rationality, openness, and constructive responses in addressing various issues, expressing its expectation that all parties will adopt the same approach in their dealings with it.
The Ministry emphasized that rationality in relations between countries first requires dealing with them through their constitutional and legitimate institutions, not with parties or factions within them, in a stance that reaffirms the exclusivity of the official representation of the Lebanese state in its foreign relations.
The ministry confirmed that Lebanon, like Iran or any other host country, will not accept the Lebanese ambassador bypassing the official institutions of the state in which he works to engage individually with isolated parties or factions.
It added that Beirut, for its part, does not accept this approach on its territory, emphasizing that relations between countries are built with and through states, and that respect for sovereignty is a mutual principle that does not tolerate selectivity or circumvention.
