أعلنت القيادة المركزية الأمريكية، اليوم (الخميس)، وصول حاملة الطائرات «يو إس إس جورج واشنطن» ومجموعتها الضاربة إلى منطقة عمليات الشرق الأوسط أمس، ضمن انتشار مقرر مسبقاً. وذكرت القيادة المركزية الأمريكية «سنتكوم» أن الحاملة عبرت بحر العرب، مستعرضة صوراً لأفراد من البحرية الأمريكية على سطح الحاملة اليوم خلال عبورها في بحر العرب.
ويفترض أن تحل الحاملة محل حاملة الطائرات أبراهام لينكولن، التي طالت فترة انتشارها لنحو 9 أشهر، ويعاني طواقمها من عدة مشكلات ونقص في الإمدادات.
وبدأت الحاملة انتشارها المقرر في نوفمبر، قبل أن تعيد الولايات المتحدة توجيهها إلى الشرق الأوسط في يناير، قبيل الحرب الأمريكية ضد إيران التي بدأت في 28 فبراير الماضي.
وكشفت عائلات بحارة على متن الحاملة أبراهام لينكولن عن «أوضاع بالغة السوء على متن السفينة الحربية خلال انتشارها في الشرق الأوسط لدعم عمليات حرب إيران، ما دفع باثنين من البحارة على الأقل إلى محاولة القفز للبحر، وسط معاناة الأطقم من نقص في الغذاء وتعطل دورات المياه». وأفادت صحيفة Military Times هذا الأسبوع بأن بحارين اثنين على الأقل حاولا القفز من على متن السفينة، فيما قالت زوجة أحد البحارة إن الإنهاك تسبب في محاولة زوجها القفز من الحاملة المنتشرة في بحر العرب منذ أكثر من 8 أشهر ونصف.
The U.S. Central Command announced today (Thursday) the arrival of the aircraft carrier "USS George Washington" and its strike group to the Middle East operational area yesterday, as part of a previously scheduled deployment. The Central Command, "CENTCOM," stated that the carrier crossed the Arabian Sea, showcasing images of U.S. Navy personnel on the deck of the carrier today during its transit in the Arabian Sea.
The carrier is expected to replace the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln, which has been deployed for nearly 9 months, with its crew facing several issues and supply shortages.
The carrier began its scheduled deployment in November, before the United States redirected it to the Middle East in January, ahead of the American war against Iran that started on February 28.
Families of sailors aboard the Abraham Lincoln carrier revealed "extremely poor conditions on the warship during its deployment in the Middle East to support operations in the Iran War, which led at least two sailors to attempt to jump overboard, amid the crews suffering from food shortages and malfunctioning toilets." Military Times reported this week that at least two sailors attempted to jump from the ship, while the wife of one sailor stated that exhaustion caused her husband to try to jump from the carrier, which has been deployed in the Arabian Sea for more than 8 and a half months.
