أكد الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، اليوم (الإثنين)، أنه لا يسعى إلى تمديد مذكرة التفاهم مع إيران، موضحاً أن الولايات المتحدة تسيطر بشكل كامل على مضيق هرمز من خلال الحصار البحري المفروض على إيران.
وجدد ترمب في حديثه للصحفيين في البيت الأبيض فكرة إعلان المضيق «أرضاً أمريكية»، ملوحاً باتخاذ إجراءات أكثر صرامة قائلاً: «احتمال اتخاذ إجراءات أكثر صرامة من التدابير الحالية».
وأضاف ترمب: إيران لا تزال قادرة على زرع ألغام تهدد السفن، لكنه وصف الحصار بأنه فعال للغاية، مبيناً أن الولايات المتحدة تتعامل مع ملايين براميل النفط أسبوعياً، وأن المضيق مفتوح وأسعار النفط تتراجع.
وأشار إلى أن التضخم في إيران بلغ 300%، وأن البلاد تمر بأزمة حادة، واصفاً الجيش الإيراني بأنه «مهزوم تماماً».
ولفت إلى أن إيران في ورطة حقيقية ووضعها الاقتصادي سيئ للغاية، مؤكداً أن أسعار النفط تستمر في الهبوط.
واتهم ترمب إيران بعدم عقد الصفقة التي يراها ضرورية، لكنه قال إنها تريد التوصل لاتفاق.
وأشار إلى أن الهدف الرئيسي هو منع إيران من الحصول على سلاح نووي.
وكان ترمب قد أكد في وقت سابق اليوم وجود قناة تواصل خلفية مع مسؤولين في الحرس الثوري الإيراني، موضحاً لشبكة «فوكس نيوز»، أن على إيران رفع الراية البيضاء وإعلان الاستسلام، لكن المتحدث باسم الحرس الثوري حسين محبي نفى ذلك قائلاً: «لا توجد مفاوضات جارية حالياً بين ممثلي الحرس الثوري والأمريكيين».
U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed today (Monday) that he is not seeking to extend the memorandum of understanding with Iran, explaining that the United States has complete control over the Strait of Hormuz through the maritime blockade imposed on Iran.
Trump reiterated in his remarks to reporters at the White House the idea of declaring the strait "U.S. territory," hinting at taking stricter measures by saying: "There is a possibility of taking more stringent actions than the current measures."
He added: Iran is still capable of planting mines that threaten ships, but he described the blockade as highly effective, indicating that the United States is dealing with millions of barrels of oil weekly, and that the strait is open and oil prices are declining.
He pointed out that inflation in Iran has reached 300%, and that the country is going through a severe crisis, describing the Iranian military as "completely defeated."
He noted that Iran is in real trouble and its economic situation is extremely bad, emphasizing that oil prices continue to drop.
Trump accused Iran of not making the deal he sees as necessary, but he said they want to reach an agreement.
He indicated that the main goal is to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
Earlier today, Trump confirmed the existence of a backchannel communication with officials in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, explaining to Fox News that Iran needs to raise the white flag and announce its surrender, but the spokesperson for the Revolutionary Guard, Hossein Mohammadi, denied this, saying: "There are currently no negotiations ongoing between Revolutionary Guard representatives and the Americans."
