The Sudanese Air Force succeeded in delivering a preemptive strike using drones that targeted a military convoy belonging to the Rapid Support Forces in the vicinity of the city of Kabkabiya in North Darfur state, according to military sources.
The sources confirmed that the bombardment resulted in the death of the leader of the targeted group and several members of the Rapid Support Forces, in addition to the destruction of the military vehicles they were using.
The Rapid Support Forces are mobilizing and deploying their troops in the Darfur region to enhance their presence in the Kordofan region and support their fronts there, following the recent battlefield losses they have suffered.
The Sudanese army is intensifying its air operations aimed at cutting off logistical supply lines and preventing the flow of military reinforcements to the Rapid Support Forces between the states of Darfur and the Kordofan region, after the territorial advances it achieved in Kordofan and its control over several strategic areas in the past period.
International efforts have not yet succeeded in reaching an agreement to stop the war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which has entered its fourth year. The war has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions in what the United Nations describes as the worst hunger and displacement crisis in the world.
Recently, splinter groups from the Rapid Support Forces surrendered to the Sudanese army in the city of Omdurman, after handing over their members and military equipment, in the latest wave of defections witnessed by the forces amid ongoing battles in the country.
The surrendered groups include 45 fighters with their full military equipment, which includes modern military vehicles and heavy weapons, along with several military leaders, most notably Osman Al-Noor, Younis Idris, and Ali Al-Zain, who are among the senior leaders of the Rapid Support Forces coming from the city of Bara in North Kordofan state.
The leaders of the surrendered groups attributed their decision to racial discrimination and tribal discrimination within the Rapid Support Forces, as well as the failure to fulfill the rights of the fighters, emphasizing the absence of a cause for which they are fighting.
