The Sudanese Prime Minister Dr. Kamel Idris confirmed today (Sunday) that the liberation of Bara, Um Sayala, and Jabra Sheikh by the Sudanese army is considered a historic and strategic victory in the journey to restore the state's sovereignty.
Idris stated, "This liberation represents an important step towards establishing security and stability in the country," noting that it serves as a starting point for the liberation of West Kordofan and the Darfur region.
The Sudanese Prime Minister announced the government's commitment to restoring essential services and creating conditions for life to return to normal in the recently liberated cities, as part of the state's efforts to restore stability and secure the needs of citizens in these areas. Earlier today, the Sudanese army announced the restoration of control over the cities of Bara, Jabra Sheikh, and Um Sayala in North Kordofan state, following military operations, confirming that these resulted in significant losses for the Rapid Support Forces in terms of lives and equipment.
The spokesperson for the armed forces clarified in a statement that the Rapid Support Forces withdrew from the targeted areas, leaving behind weapons and vehicles.
Bara is the second largest city in North Kordofan and is located on the road linking Al-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, to the Darfur region, making it an important hub for military and commercial supply movements. Meanwhile, the areas of Jabra Sheikh and Um Sayala are located to the east and northeast of the state along the routes connecting North Kordofan to Khartoum state, which gives them significance in securing the rear of the advancing forces towards the west or the capital.
North Kordofan state represents one of the most important fronts in the Sudanese war, due to its location linking central Sudan to the Darfur region through a network of land routes, and it serves as a strategic gateway to the city of Al-Obeid, which is controlled by the Sudanese army.
