The Sudanese army took control of the Um Sayala area in North Kordofan yesterday (Saturday). Arab media reported that the Sudanese army extended its control over the Um Sayala area and began extensive combing operations towards the city of Bara.
The government of North Kordofan accused the Rapid Support Forces of launching an attack on the Barbur area, south of the city of El Obeid, killing 15 civilians and injuring 7 others. According to the Sudan Tribune website, the Rapid Support Forces intensified their drone attacks on El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, and the surrounding areas.
The government of North Kordofan and the state's security committee condemned the "attack," which they described as "treacherous," that occurred on Thursday and targeted unarmed civilians, in a blatant violation of humanitarian law and norms and values, stating that the attacking force looted a number of livestock and terrorized the peaceful residents.
The state government stated that "the armed forces and regular forces immediately moved to pursue the attacking elements, managed to repel them, and forced them to flee, before fully securing the area and ensuring its safety, while combing and pursuit operations continue to prevent any threat to the citizens' security."
On another note, eyewitnesses reported that a convoy of the Rapid Support Forces bombed water stations supplying several towns in the Rahid al-Nuba area in North Kordofan, which is close to the borders of Khartoum state.
They indicated that the bombing destroyed a water station in the town of Um Nabq and in the city of Rahid al-Nuba, confirming that the bombed stations provide drinking water for thousands of displaced people who fled to Rahid al-Nuba from the areas of Um Sayala, Jabrat al-Sheikh, and East Bara.
In a related context, the Chairman of the Sovereign Council in Sudan, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, stated yesterday that restoring the rights of the Sudanese people and protecting the country's sovereignty and unity represent a national duty that cannot be compromised, emphasizing the state's continued efforts to confront the challenges threatening Sudan's security and stability.
Al-Burhan's statements came after the Sudanese army took control of the city of Kurmuk and secured its eastern gate, vowing to expel the Rapid Support Forces and ensure that this experience is not repeated.
