وسط أنباء عن مساعٍ إسرائيلية لنقل المفاوضات بين لبنان وإسرائيل المقررة الأسبوع القادم إلى روما ورفض لبنان ذلك، كشفت مصادر مطلعة، أن الرئيس اللبناني جوزيف عون سيجري زيارة إلى البيت الأبيض في 21 يوليو الجاري.
وأفادت المصادر بأن واشنطن عرضت على بيروت نقل جولة المفاوضات السادسة مع إسرائيل إلى روما، مبينة أن بيروت رفضت ذلك كونه طلباً إسرائيلياً للتحرر من الضغط الأمريكي.
وأشارت إلى أن إسرائيل تسعى لإنتاج صيغة ثنائية مع لبنان بحضور أمريكي بالحد الأدنى، في ظل مماطلة إسرائيل تطبيق المناطق التجريبية، واستمرار تفريغ الجنوب، مبينة أن إسرائيل هددت بتقديم دعاوى أمام القضاء الأمريكي تتهم لبنان بإيواء منظمات إرهابية.
من جهة أخرى، دان الرئيس اللبناني، اليوم، استمرار الاعتداءات الإسرائيلية على لبنان، مجدداً دعوة المجتمع الدولي إلى الضغط على إسرائيل لاحترام اتفاق وقف إطلاق النار.
وأكد عون خلال لقاء مع وفود من حزب «الوطنيين الأحرار»، وجمعية المصارف، وحركة «التغيير» أنه لن يقبل -تحت أي ظرف- أن يفاوض أحد عن لبنان، مشيراً إلى أن بلاده تمكنت من انتزاع اعتراف من إسرائيل بعدم وجود أي مطامع لديها بالأرض اللبنانية.
وأكد أن قطار الدولة أقلع، وأن قرار حصرية السلاح (بيد الدولة) سيُنفذ، مشدداً على أنه لا بديل عن قيام الدولة لتحقيق مصلحة جميع اللبنانيين.
Amid reports of Israeli efforts to move the negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, scheduled for next week, to Rome and Lebanon's rejection of that, informed sources revealed that Lebanese President Joseph Aoun will visit the White House on July 21.
The sources indicated that Washington offered Beirut to move the sixth round of negotiations with Israel to Rome, noting that Beirut rejected this as it was an Israeli request to free itself from American pressure.
They pointed out that Israel is seeking to produce a bilateral formula with Lebanon with minimal American presence, amid Israel's procrastination in implementing the experimental zones and the ongoing emptying of the south, indicating that Israel threatened to file lawsuits in American courts accusing Lebanon of harboring terrorist organizations.
On another note, the Lebanese president condemned today the continued Israeli assaults on Lebanon, reiterating his call for the international community to pressure Israel to respect the ceasefire agreement.
Aoun confirmed during a meeting with delegations from the "Free Patriotic Movement," the Banking Association, and the "Change" Movement that he will not accept - under any circumstances - for anyone to negotiate on behalf of Lebanon, pointing out that his country has managed to extract recognition from Israel that it has no territorial ambitions in Lebanon.
He affirmed that the state train has departed, and that the decision regarding the exclusivity of arms (in the hands of the state) will be implemented, stressing that there is no alternative to the establishment of the state to achieve the interests of all Lebanese.
