أكد وزير الدفاع الإيطالي، غويدو كروزيتو، أهمية الحفاظ على العلاقات الإستراتيجية بين إيطاليا والولايات المتحدة، عقب تجدد التوتر بين الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب ورئيسة الوزراء الإيطالية جورجيا ميلوني، قبل أيام من مشاركتهما في قمة حلف شمال الأطلسي (الناتو) المقررة في تركيا.
وجاءت تصريحات كروزيتو، بعد أن أعاد ترمب إشعال الخلاف مع ميلوني، من خلال منشور على منصة «تروث سوشال» نشر فيه صورة لرئيسة الوزراء الإيطالية وهي تنظر إليه، مرفقة بعبارة ساخرة: «هناك حاجة إلى أمر تقييدي»، في إشارة اعتُبرت استهزاءً بها.
ولم تصدر ميلوني أي تعليق رسمي على المنشور حتى الآن، بينما قال وزير الدفاع الإيطالي في مقابلة مع قناة «سكاي تي جي 24» الإيطالية: «لم يكن لدي أي رد فعل على المنشور، والأهم هو الحفاظ على العلاقات مع حليف رئيسي مثل الولايات المتحدة»، مضيفاً: «الأشخاص يأتون ويرحلون، لكن العلاقات بين الدول تبقى».
وكانت ميلوني قد اتهمت ترمب الشهر الماضي باختلاق رواية ادعى فيها أنها «توسلت» إليه لالتقاط صورة معه خلال قمة مجموعة السبع التي استضافتها فرنسا، وهو ما نفته رئيسة الوزراء الإيطالية بشدة.
وفي المقابل، صعّد عدد من قادة المعارضة الإيطالية من لهجتهم تجاه الرئيس الأمريكي.
ورغم أن ميلوني كانت من أبرز الداعمين لترمب في أوروبا، وكانت الزعيمة الأوروبية الوحيدة التي حضرت حفل تنصيبه في 2025، فإن العلاقة بين الجانبين شهدت فتوراً خلال العام الجاري، بعدما انتقدت هجومه على البابا ليو على خلفية موقفه من الصراع مع إيران، وهو ما دفع ترمب إلى الرد باتهامها بأنها «تفتقر إلى الشجاعة».
The Italian Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, emphasized the importance of maintaining strategic relations between Italy and the United States, following renewed tensions between U.S. President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, just days before their participation in the NATO summit scheduled in Turkey.
Crosetto's statements came after Trump reignited the dispute with Meloni through a post on the "Truth Social" platform, in which he shared a photo of the Italian Prime Minister looking at him, accompanied by a sarcastic phrase: "A restraining order is needed," which was interpreted as mockery of her.
Meloni has not issued any official comment on the post so far, while the Italian Minister of Defense said in an interview with the Italian channel "Sky TG 24": "I had no reaction to the post, and the most important thing is to maintain relations with a key ally like the United States," adding: "People come and go, but relations between countries remain."
Last month, Meloni accused Trump of fabricating a story in which he claimed she "begged" him for a photo during the G7 summit hosted by France, which the Italian Prime Minister strongly denied.
In contrast, several leaders of the Italian opposition have intensified their rhetoric against the U.S. President.
Although Meloni was one of Trump's most prominent supporters in Europe and the only European leader to attend his inauguration in 2025, the relationship between the two sides has cooled this year after she criticized his attack on Pope Leo regarding his stance on the conflict with Iran, which prompted Trump to respond by accusing her of "lacking courage."
