نجح الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب في تغيير مواقف مجلس الشيوخ الأمريكي وتراجعه عن تقييد صلاحيات الرئيس ضد إيران.
وتراجع مجلس الشيوخ الأمريكي في الساعات الأولى من صباح اليوم (الخميس) عن مواقفه الداعمة لتقييد صلاحيات الرئيس دونالد ترمب العسكرية تجاه إيران، بعدما رفض المضي في مشروع قرار جديد بشأن صلاحيات الحرب، وذلك عقب ضغوط مارسها ترمب على أعضاء جمهوريين غيّر بعضهم موقفه، بحسب شبكة «سي إن إن».
وقالت الشبكة إن التصويت جاء بعد أن أعرب ترمب عن استيائه من أعضاء مجلس الشيوخ الجمهوريين الذين صوتوا الثلاثاء لصالح قرار يقيّد صلاحياته في شن الحرب على إيران، وكذلك من الجمهوريين الذين تغيبوا عن ذلك التصويت، معتبراً أن الكونغرس أضعف موقفه على طاولة المفاوضات مع إيران.
وأضافت الشبكة أن السيناتوريين الجمهوريين راند بول وبيل كاسيدي غيرا موقفيهما بعدما كانا قد صوتا سابقاً لتقييد صلاحيات الرئيس بشأن إيران، مبينة أن بول امتنع عن التصويت، بينما صوت كاسيدي ضد المضي قدماً في القرار، في حين دعم موركوفسكي القرار، وصوت السيناتور الديمقراطي جون فيترمان ضده مرة أخرى، ليحصل التصويت على نتيجة 47 صوتاً مقابل 50، مع امتناع عضو واحد.
ورحب ترمب بنتيجة التصويت عبر منصة «تروث سوشيال»، مشيداً بتغيّر موقفي بول وكاسيدي، قائلاً: «هذا التصويت يوجّه رسالة واضحة إلى إيران».
وكان ترمب هاجم مراراً الجمهوريين الذين دعموا قرارات تحد من صلاحياته العسكرية تجاه إيران، بعد أن أقر مجلس النواب في وقت سابق من الشهر قراراً بأغلبية 215 مقابل 208، وانضم 4 جمهوريين إلى الديمقراطيين في دعمه، ووصف ترمب هؤلاء الجمهوريين بأنهم «باحثون عن الأضواء»، معتبراً أن موقفهم «غير وطني».

The U.S. Senate reversed its supportive positions on restricting President Donald Trump's military powers regarding Iran in the early hours of this morning (Thursday), after rejecting a new resolution on war powers, following pressure exerted by Trump on Republican members, some of whom changed their stance, according to CNN.
The network reported that the vote came after Trump expressed his displeasure with Republican senators who voted on Tuesday in favor of a resolution that limits his powers to wage war on Iran, as well as with Republicans who were absent from that vote, considering that Congress weakened his position at the negotiating table with Iran.
CNN added that Republican senators Rand Paul and Bill Cassidy changed their positions after previously voting to restrict the president's powers regarding Iran, noting that Paul abstained from voting, while Cassidy voted against moving forward with the resolution, whereas Murkowski supported the resolution, and Democratic Senator John Fetterman voted against it again, resulting in a vote tally of 47 in favor and 50 against, with one member abstaining.
Trump welcomed the outcome of the vote via the "Truth Social" platform, praising the change in the positions of Paul and Cassidy, stating: "This vote sends a clear message to Iran."
Trump has repeatedly attacked Republicans who supported decisions limiting his military powers regarding Iran, after the House of Representatives earlier this month passed a resolution by a majority of 215 to 208, with 4 Republicans joining the Democrats in support, describing these Republicans as "attention seekers," considering their stance "unpatriotic."
