دعا الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة أنطونيو غوتيريش اليوم (الإثنين) إلى مواصلة المحادثات بين الولايات المتحدة وإيران بشكل بنّاء من أجل التوصل إلى اتفاق.
وأكد غوتيريش أن الوصول إلى اتفاق لا يمكن أن يتم بين ليلة وضحاها، في ظل عمق الخلافات القائمة، مشدداً على ضرورة الحفاظ على وقف إطلاق النار بشكل مطلق، مع وجوب وقف جميع الانتهاكات.
ولفت إلى أن المحادثات التي استضافتها باكستان بين الطرفين أكدت جدية الانخراط بين الجانبين، وشكلت خطوة إيجابية وذات مغزى نحو استئناف الحوار، رغم عدم التوصل إلى اتفاق.
وطالب الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة جميع أطراف النزاع باحترم حرية الملاحة، بما في ذلك في مضيق هرمز، وفقاً للقانون الدولي، موضحاً أن نحو 20 ألف بحّار عالقون في هذا النزاع، ويواجهون صعوبات متزايدة يومياً على متن السفن.
في غضون ذلك، نقلت صحيفة «وول ستريت جورنال» الأمريكية عن مسؤول أمريكي رفيع المستوى قوله إن أكثر من 15 سفينة حربية أمريكية تشارك في الحصار المفروض على إيران في مضيق هرمز، موضحاً أنه تم نشر حاملة طائرات، وعدة مدمرات على متنها صواريخ موجهة، وسفينة إنزال، وعدد من الوحدات القتالية الأخرى في الشرق الأوسط، وأشار إلى أن هذه السفن قادرة على حمل مروحيات. جاء ذلك عقب تأكيد القيادة المركزية للقوات المسلحة الأمريكية (سنتكوم) اليوم بدء تنفيذ حصار بحري على إيران، يشمل جميع السفن من وإلى الموانئ الإيرانية ومناطقها الساحلية.
وكان الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب قد حذر من أن قواته ستدمر أي سفن هجومية سريعة عائدة لإيران تسعى لكسر الحصار الذي فرضته واشنطن على الموانئ.
The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called today (Monday) for constructive talks between the United States and Iran to continue in order to reach an agreement.
Guterres emphasized that reaching an agreement cannot happen overnight, given the depth of existing disagreements, stressing the necessity of maintaining a complete ceasefire, with all violations needing to stop.
He pointed out that the talks hosted by Pakistan between the two sides confirmed the seriousness of engagement between them and represented a positive and meaningful step towards resuming dialogue, despite not reaching an agreement.
The UN Secretary-General urged all parties to the conflict to respect freedom of navigation, including in the Strait of Hormuz, in accordance with international law, explaining that about 20,000 sailors are trapped in this conflict and face increasing difficulties daily aboard their ships.
Meanwhile, the American newspaper "The Wall Street Journal" quoted a senior U.S. official saying that more than 15 U.S. warships are participating in the blockade imposed on Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, clarifying that an aircraft carrier, several destroyers equipped with guided missiles, a landing ship, and a number of other combat units have been deployed in the Middle East, noting that these ships are capable of carrying helicopters. This came after the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed today the commencement of a maritime blockade on Iran, which includes all ships to and from Iranian ports and coastal areas.
U.S. President Donald Trump had warned that his forces would destroy any fast attack boats returning from Iran attempting to break the blockade imposed by Washington on the ports.
