تخطط السلطات البريطانية لنشر سفينة إجلاء تابعة للبحرية الملكية، مزودة بأسطول من الطائرات المسيّرة ذاتية التشغيل المصممة للكشف عن الألغام وإزالتها في مضيق هرمز.
وكشفت صحيفة «صنداي تايمز» أن وزير الدفاع البريطاني جون هيلي وافق على خطط طوارئ لإرسال سفينة الإنزال البرمائية «آر إف أيه لايم باي» التي تعرف بـ«أم المسيّرات»، ويبلغ طولها 580 قدماً من فئة «باي»، إلى مضيق هرمز لدعم جهود إزالة الألغام.
وأعلن مسؤولون بريطانيون، الأسبوع الماضي، أن السفينة التي تخضع حالياً لصيانة دورية في جبل طارق، ستُرسل إلى البحر الأبيض المتوسط لإجراء تدريبات.
وأفاد التقرير بأن «آر إف أيه لايم باي» ستجهز في جبل طارق بأنظمة ذاتية التشغيل لإزالة الألغام، تشمل طائرات مسيّرة تحت الماء وقوارب البحث عن الألغام، ما يسمح لها بالعمل كسفينة قيادة لعمليات مسح قاع البحر وإزالة الألغام.
ونقلت «التايمز» عن مصدر دفاعي قوله: «لم يُتخذ أي قرار بعد بشأن نشر قوات في مضيق هرمز»، مضيفاً: «تمنح هذه الخطوة الوقائية الوزراء خيارات في حال دعت الحاجة للمساعدة في استئناف حركة الملاحة التجارية بشكل طبيعي».
وكانت الصحيفة ذكرت أن طائرات بدون طيار تابعة لمجموعة استغلال الألغام والتهديدات التابعة للبحرية الملكية البريطانية، والموجودة بالفعل في المنطقة، قيد الدراسة لنشرها.
ومن المتوقع أن تدعم هذه الوحدة الموارد الموجودة على متن سفينة الإمداد الملكية «لايم باي»، التي تتسع لما يصل إلى 500 جندي، وتضم أنظمة طبية وأسلحة على متنها.
وكان الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب عبر عن عدم رضاه عن رد المملكة المتحدة على أزمة الشرق الأوسط، مضيفاً أن بريطانيا «ينبغي أن تشارك بحماس» في الجهود المبذولة لإعادة فتح مضيق هرمز.
وأعلنت القيادة المركزية الأمريكية، السبت، وصول سفينة هجوم برمائية أمريكية تحمل آلافاً من القوات الاستكشافية إلى الشرق الأوسط. وقالت في بيان: «وصل بحارة ومشاة بحرية أمريكيون على متن السفينة يو إس إس طرابلس (LHA 7) إلى منطقة مسؤولية القيادة المركزية في 27 مارس».
وتشن الولايات المتحدة وإسرائيل منذ 28 فبراير الماضي هجوماً جوياً على إيران، أسفر عن مقتل أكثر من 1340 شخصاً، من بينهم المرشد الأعلى علي خامنئي.
وردّت إيران بشن غارات جوية بطائرات مسيّرة وصواريخ استهدفت إسرائيل، فضلاً عن الأردن والعراق ودول الخليج، ما أدى إلى سقوط ضحايا وإلحاق أضرار بالبنية التحتية، فضلاً عن تعطيل الأسواق العالمية وحركة الطيران. وتعطلت حركة الملاحة في مضيق هرمز فعلياً منذ أوائل مارس، والذي يمر عبره نحو 20 مليون برميل من النفط يومياً، ما تسبب في ارتفاع تكاليف الشحن وزيادة أسعار النفط العالمية.
The British authorities are planning to deploy a Royal Navy evacuation ship, equipped with a fleet of autonomous drones designed to detect and remove mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
The "Sunday Times" revealed that British Defense Secretary John Healey has approved emergency plans to send the amphibious landing ship "RFA Lime Bay," known as the "Mother of Drones," which is 580 feet long and of the "Bay" class, to the Strait of Hormuz to support mine-clearing efforts.
British officials announced last week that the ship, which is currently undergoing routine maintenance in Gibraltar, will be sent to the Mediterranean for training exercises.
The report stated that "RFA Lime Bay" will be equipped in Gibraltar with autonomous mine-clearing systems, including underwater drones and mine-hunting boats, allowing it to operate as a command ship for seabed survey and mine removal operations.
The "Times" quoted a defense source saying: "No decision has been made yet regarding the deployment of forces in the Strait of Hormuz," adding: "This precautionary step gives ministers options should the need arise to assist in resuming normal commercial shipping traffic."
The newspaper mentioned that drones from the Royal Navy's Mine Countermeasures and Threats Group, already in the region, are under consideration for deployment.
This unit is expected to support the resources aboard the Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship "Lime Bay," which can accommodate up to 500 soldiers and includes medical systems and weapons on board.
U.S. President Donald Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the United Kingdom's response to the Middle East crisis, adding that Britain "should engage enthusiastically" in efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. Central Command announced on Saturday the arrival of an American amphibious assault ship carrying thousands of expeditionary forces to the Middle East. It stated: "U.S. sailors and Marines aboard the USS Tripoli (LHA 7) arrived in the Central Command area of responsibility on March 27."
The United States and Israel have been conducting airstrikes on Iran since February 28, resulting in the deaths of more than 1,340 people, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In response, Iran launched airstrikes using drones and missiles targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries, leading to casualties and damage to infrastructure, in addition to disrupting global markets and air traffic. Shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has effectively been disrupted since early March, through which about 20 million barrels of oil pass daily, resulting in increased shipping costs and rising global oil prices.
