A political source in the "Coordination Framework" revealed that the ruling coalition in Iraq will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday evening to discuss nominating an alternative to Nouri al-Maliki for the position of Prime Minister, amid ongoing disagreements within the framework forces regarding the mechanism for determining the alternative candidate.

The source indicated that the Coordination Framework will address the issue of presenting an alternative candidate during its meeting, after the consensus on continuing al-Maliki's nomination faltered, noting that the meeting will see several proposals put forward to resolve this issue.

It was announced that leaders within the framework had agreed during the previous meeting on the necessity of al-Maliki withdrawing from the race, and they officially informed him of this, but he refused to withdraw and stipulated that a vote be held within the framework on withdrawing his nomination instead of a voluntary withdrawal.

According to the source, some parties within the framework will propose conducting a secret paper vote among three main options: the first is to keep al-Maliki's nomination, the second is to propose the name of Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, the current Prime Minister, and the third is to open the nomination for another figure to be named during the meeting.

This move comes at a time when the Coordination Framework is experiencing internal differences regarding the resolution of sovereign positions, especially after escalating disagreements over the proposed names and mechanisms for their selection.

It is worth noting that al-Maliki has insisted on his nomination during the past period, amid a trend within some factions of the framework to seek alternatives that ensure broader consensus and avoid political division.

These developments coincide with increasing political pressures to expedite the resolution of the presidential file, as it is considered a fundamental step to complete constitutional entitlements and stabilize political stability in the country.

At the beginning of this month, a source in the Coordination Framework stated that the last meeting of the framework concluded with a preliminary agreement to withdraw al-Maliki's nomination, but there is a disagreement regarding the constitutional and political mechanism to be adopted for the announcement.

The attendees agreed, according to the source, on the necessity of avoiding deepening the division within the coalition, amid the widening circle of reservations about re-nominating Nouri al-Maliki, but the discussion focused on the appropriate method for withdrawing the nomination, whether through an official statement from the "State of Law" party, or a consensus announcement on behalf of the Coordination Framework as a whole, or presenting a consensus alternative to be announced simultaneously with the withdrawal.

Iraqi sources have spoken about the necessity of resolving this file quickly to avoid further complications in the political scene, especially with the tense situation in the Middle East and the ongoing American-Israeli war with Iran.
