قلل الأمين العام لحلف شمال الأطلسي (الناتو) مارك روته، اليوم (الأحد)، من أهمية التوتر بين الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب والحلف.
وأوضح خلال مقابلة مع برنامج «فوكس نيوز صنداي»، أن غضب ترمب من بعض الدول جاء في سياق سعيه لدفع الحلفاء إلى لعب دور أكبر في إعادة فتح مضيق هرمز، موضحاً أن أكثر من 20 دولة تتكاتف الآن لتنفيذ رؤيته لضمان استمرار عمل ممر الشحن الحيوي.
وقال الأمين العام لحلف شمال الأطلسي: «تحدثت مع ترمب عدة مرات هذا الأسبوع، ومن الضروري أن تتخذ الولايات المتحدة إجراءات عسكرية في إيران، نظراً لأن برامجها النووية والصاروخية الباليستية تمثل تهديداً وجودياً للعالم».
وأشار روته إلى أن حملة الرئيس ترمب ضد إيران كانت ضرورية، مشدداً على ضرورة أن تضطلع واشنطن بخطوة تحييد قدرات إيران النووية وصواريخها الباليستية.
وكان ترمب قد هاجم دول حلف شمال الأطلسي، بسبب عدم دعمها للحرب التي تشنها واشنطن وإسرائيل على إيران، ووصفهم بـ«الجبناء».
وكتب ترمب في منشور على منصة «تروث سوشيال»: «دون الولايات المتحدة، حلف شمال الأطلسي مجرد نمر من ورق!».
The Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, downplayed the significance of the tension between U.S. President Donald Trump and the alliance today (Sunday).
He explained during an interview with the "Fox News Sunday" program that Trump's anger towards some countries came in the context of his efforts to push allies to take a larger role in reopening the Strait of Hormuz, noting that more than 20 countries are now working together to implement his vision to ensure the continued operation of this vital shipping corridor.
The NATO Secretary General said, "I spoke with Trump several times this week, and it is essential for the United States to take military action in Iran, as its nuclear and ballistic missile programs pose an existential threat to the world."
Rutte pointed out that Trump's campaign against Iran was necessary, emphasizing the need for Washington to take steps to neutralize Iran's nuclear capabilities and its ballistic missiles.
Trump had criticized NATO countries for not supporting the war being waged by the U.S. and Israel against Iran, labeling them as "cowards."
He wrote in a post on the "Truth Social" platform: "Without the United States, NATO is just a paper tiger!"
