أعلنت القيادة المركزية الأمريكية مقتل 6 جنود أمريكييين في العمليات القتالية خلال الـ 48 ساعة الماضية.
وأوضحت القيادة في بيان: حتى الساعة الرابعة مساءً بتوقيت شرق الولايات المتحدة، في الثاني من مارس الجاري، قُتل 6 جنود أمريكيين في العمليات القتالية، مضيفة: قد استعادت القوات الأمريكية مؤخراً رفات جنديين كانا مفقودين سابقاً من منشأة تم استهدافها خلال بداية الهجمات الإيرانية في المنطقة.
وأشارت إلى أن العمليات القتالية الرئيسية مستمرة، وسيتم حجب هويات القتلى لمدة 24 ساعة بعد إبلاغ ذويهم.
من جهة أخرى، قال وزير الخارجية الأمريكي مارك روبيو للصحفيين، إن واشنطن تأمل أن يتمكن الشعب الإيراني من إسقاط الحكومة في طهران، لكن هدف المهمة الأمريكية هو تدمير قدرات إيران في مجال الصواريخ الباليستية وضمان ألا تتمكن من امتلاك سلاح نووي.
وأضاف أن الولايات المتحدة ليست مستعدة لإرسال قوات برية إلى إيران في هذه اللحظة، لكن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب لديه هذه الخيارات، مبيناً أن الإدارة الأمريكية تعتقد أن الهدف الذي حددته في إيران يمكن تحقيقه دون قوات برية.
واعتبر روبيو أن إيران كانت تشكل تهديداً وشيكاً للولايات المتحدة، واصفاً الهجوم على إيران بأنه «تحرك استباقي».
وحول ما إذا كانت إيران تشكّل تهديداً وشيكاً للولايات المتحدة، قال روبيو: «نعم، كان تهديداً وشيكاً بالتأكيد، والتهديد الوشيك كان أننا كنا نعلم أنه إذا تعرضت إيران لهجوم، وكنا نعتقد أنها ستتعرض لهجوم، فإنها ستسارع فوراً إلى استهدافنا».
وأضاف: «لم نكن سنجلس هناك ونتلقى الضربة قبل أن نرد، لأن وزارة الحرب قالت إنه لو فعلنا ذلك، ولو انتظرنا حتى يضربونا أولاً بعد أن يتعرضوا لهجوم من طرف آخر - إسرائيل هاجمتهم، فيضربوننا نحن أولاً - ولو انتظرنا أن يضربونا، لكنا سنعاني من خسائر وإصابات ووفيات أكثر».
وأشار إلى أن الولايات المتحدة تحركت بشكل استباقي، بطريقة دفاعية، لمنعهم من إلحاق ضرر أكبر، مشدداً بالقول: «لو لم نفعل ذلك، لكانت هناك جلسات استماع في الكونغرس حول كيف كنا نعلم أن ذلك سيحدث ولم نتحرك بشكل استباقي لمنع مزيد من الضحايا والخسائر في الأرواح».
The U.S. Central Command announced the death of 6 American soldiers in combat operations over the past 48 hours.
The command clarified in a statement: As of 4 PM Eastern Time on March 2nd, 6 American soldiers were killed in combat operations, adding: U.S. forces recently recovered the remains of two soldiers who were previously missing from a facility that was targeted during the initial Iranian attacks in the region.
It noted that major combat operations are ongoing, and the identities of the deceased will be withheld for 24 hours after notifying their families.
On another note, U.S. Secretary of State Mark Rubio told reporters that Washington hopes the Iranian people can overthrow the government in Tehran, but the goal of the U.S. mission is to destroy Iran's ballistic missile capabilities and ensure it cannot acquire nuclear weapons.
He added that the United States is not prepared to send ground troops to Iran at this moment, but President Donald Trump has those options, indicating that the U.S. administration believes the goals set in Iran can be achieved without ground forces.
Rubio considered that Iran posed an imminent threat to the United States, describing the attack on Iran as a "preemptive move."
Regarding whether Iran constitutes an imminent threat to the United States, Rubio said: "Yes, it was definitely an imminent threat, and the imminent threat was that we knew if Iran were attacked, and we believed it would be attacked, it would immediately rush to target us."
He added: "We wouldn't sit there and take the hit before we responded, because the Department of War said that if we did that, and if we waited for them to hit us first after being attacked by another party - Israel attacked them, so they hit us first - if we waited for them to hit us, we would suffer more casualties and injuries and deaths."
He pointed out that the United States acted preemptively, in a defensive manner, to prevent them from causing greater harm, emphasizing: "If we hadn't done that, there would have been hearings in Congress about how we knew that would happen and did not act preemptively to prevent further casualties and loss of life."
