أعلنت وزارة الداخلية في كمبوديا، أن أكثر من نصف مليون شخص نزحوا من منازلهم بعد أسبوعين من الاشتباكات الحدودية الدامية مع تايلند المجاورة. فيما أفادت بانكوك بأن نحو 400 ألف شخص نزحوا في تايلند بسبب تجدد النزاع الحدودي.
وأسفرت الاشتباكات المتجددة بين البلدين المتجاورين في جنوب شرق آسيا هذا الشهر والتي استخدمت فيها الدبابات والطائرات المسيرة والمدفعية، عن مقتل ما لا يقل عن 22 شخصاً في تايلند و19 في كمبوديا، وفقاً لمسؤولين.
وذكرت وزارة الداخلية الكمبودية في بيان، اليوم(الأحد)، أن أكثر من نصف مليون كمبودي، بينهم نساء وأطفال، يعانون من ظروف معيشية قاسية نتيجة نزوحهم القسري من منازلهم ومدارسهم هرباً من قذائف المدفعية والصواريخ والغارات الجوية التي تشنها طائرات إف-16 التايلاندية، وقدرت وزارة الداخلية إجمالي عدد النازحين بنحو 518.611 شخصاً.
ونشب القتال على خلفية نزاع يتعلق بترسيم الحدود التي يبلغ طولها 800 كيلومتر بين البلدين وتعود إلى الحقبة الاستعمارية، بالإضافة إلى خلاف حول معبد قديم على الحدود.
وحمّل كل طرف الآخر مسؤولية اندلاع القتال وتقاذفا الاتهامات باستهداف المدنيين، وذلك بعد اشتباكات استمرت خمسة أيام في يوليو أسفرت عن مقتل العشرات.
ودعت كل من الصين والاتحاد الأوروبي والولايات المتحدة وماليزيا ورابطة دول جنوب شرق آسيا (آسيان) والأمم المتحدة، إلى وقف إطلاق النار.
ومن المقرر أن يجتمع وزراء خارجية دول آسيان، بما في ذلك كمبوديا وتايلند، غدا (الإثنين)، في كوالالمبور لمناقشة النزاع.
The Cambodian Ministry of Interior announced that more than half a million people have been displaced from their homes following two weeks of bloody border clashes with neighboring Thailand. Meanwhile, Bangkok reported that about 400,000 people have been displaced in Thailand due to the renewed border conflict.
The renewed clashes between the neighboring Southeast Asian countries this month, which involved tanks, drones, and artillery, resulted in the deaths of at least 22 people in Thailand and 19 in Cambodia, according to officials.
The Cambodian Ministry of Interior stated in a statement today (Sunday) that more than half a million Cambodians, including women and children, are suffering from harsh living conditions due to their forced displacement from their homes and schools to escape artillery shells, rockets, and airstrikes carried out by Thai F-16 aircraft. The Ministry estimated the total number of displaced persons to be around 518,611.
The fighting erupted over a dispute concerning the 800-kilometer-long border demarcation between the two countries, dating back to the colonial era, as well as a disagreement over an ancient temple on the border.
Each side blamed the other for the outbreak of fighting and exchanged accusations of targeting civilians, following clashes that lasted five days in July, which resulted in dozens of deaths.
China, the European Union, the United States, Malaysia, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and the United Nations have all called for a ceasefire.
ASEAN foreign ministers, including those from Cambodia and Thailand, are scheduled to meet tomorrow (Monday) in Kuala Lumpur to discuss the conflict.
