فُجع الوسط العلمي والدعوي بوفاة نائب رئيس مجلس الشورى السابق عضو مؤسسة عكاظ للصحافة والنشر الدكتور عبدالله عمر نصيف، الذي انتقل إلى رحمة الله تعالى، صباح اليوم (الأحد)، بعد مسيرة حافلة بالعطاء امتدت لأكثر من خمسة عقود في مجالات التعليم والبحث والدعوة وخدمة الوطن.
ولادته وتعليمه
وُلد الفقيد في مدينة جدة عام 1939م، وتلقّى تعليمه الأولي فيها قبل أن يلتحق بجامعة الملك سعود في الرياض، حيث نال درجة البكالوريوس في علوم الجيولوجيا، ثم واصل دراساته العليا في الخارج حتى حصل على درجة الدكتوراه في تخصصه العلمي، ليعود بعدها أستاذاً جامعياً وباحثاً بارزاً في مجال علوم الأرض.
إسهاماته في تطوير البرامج العلمية
تدرّج الدكتور نصيف في العمل الأكاديمي حتى تولّى رئاسة جامعة الملك عبدالعزيز في جدة، وأسهم خلال فترة رئاسته في تطوير برامجها العلمية وتوسيع كلياتها وأقسامها البحثية، كما عمل على ربط الجامعة بالمجتمع من خلال مبادرات علمية وثقافية رائدة.
مناصبه ومؤلفاته
وعُرف الفقيد بجهوده الكبيرة في رابطة العالم الإسلامي، إذ شغل منصب الأمين العام للرابطة، وأسهم في تمثيل المملكة في عددٍ من المؤتمرات والمنتديات الدولية، مدافعاً عن القضايا الإسلامية، وداعياً إلى الحوار والتفاهم بين الشعوب والأديان. كما تولّى منصب نائب رئيس مجلس الشورى في إحدى دوراته، وكان مثالاً في الحكمة والرؤية الواسعة وخدمة المصلحة الوطنية.
ترك الفقيد إرثاً علمياً وفكرياً كبيراً من المؤلفات والمحاضرات والمشاركات في المؤتمرات داخل المملكة وخارجها، وتميّز بأسلوبه الوسطي المتزن ودعوته المستمرة إلى الاعتدال والتعايش، مما جعله يحظى بتقدير واسع من العلماء والمفكرين في العالم الإسلامي.
سيرة عطرة
وقد عبّر عدد من الشخصيات العامة والأكاديمية عن حزنهم العميق لرحيله، مشيدين بسيرته العطرة وجهوده في دعم التعليم والعمل الخيري، مؤكدين أن وفاته تمثل خسارة كبيرة للوطن وللأمة
أسرة الراحل
وسيصلى عليه، عصر اليوم (الأحد)، في مسجد الجفالي، وسيوارى جثمانه الثرى بمقبرة الأسد بجدة. والفقيد زوج هند بنت عبدالوهاب باناجة، ووالد الدكتور عمر، ومحمد، وعائشة، وخديجة، ومحمود. ويتقبل العزاء في منزل الأسرة الكائن بحي الشاطئ أبراج الخزامى شارع الأمير فيصل بن فهد بجدة.

The scientific and advocacy community was saddened by the passing of the former Vice President of the Shura Council and member of the Okaz Foundation for Press and Publishing, Dr. Abdullah Omar Naseef, who passed away this morning (Sunday), after a long and fruitful career that spanned more than five decades in the fields of education, research, advocacy, and national service.
His Birth and Education
The deceased was born in Jeddah in 1939, where he received his early education before joining King Saud University in Riyadh, where he earned a bachelor's degree in geology. He then continued his graduate studies abroad until he obtained a doctorate in his scientific specialty, returning afterward as a university professor and a prominent researcher in the field of Earth sciences.
His Contributions to the Development of Scientific Programs
Dr. Naseef progressed in the academic field until he assumed the presidency of King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. During his presidency, he contributed to the development of its scientific programs and the expansion of its colleges and research departments, as well as working to connect the university with the community through pioneering scientific and cultural initiatives.
His Positions and Publications
The deceased was known for his significant efforts in the Muslim World League, where he served as the Secretary-General of the league and contributed to representing the Kingdom in several international conferences and forums, advocating for Islamic issues and calling for dialogue and understanding among peoples and religions. He also held the position of Vice President of the Shura Council in one of its sessions, exemplifying wisdom, broad vision, and service to national interests.
The deceased left behind a substantial scientific and intellectual legacy of writings, lectures, and participation in conferences both inside and outside the Kingdom. He was distinguished by his balanced moderate approach and his continuous call for moderation and coexistence, which earned him wide respect from scholars and thinkers in the Islamic world.
A Noble Biography
Several public and academic figures expressed their deep sorrow at his passing, praising his noble biography and efforts in supporting education and charitable work, affirming that his death represents a great loss to the nation and the ummah.
The Family of the Deceased
He will be prayed upon this afternoon (Sunday) at Al-Jafali Mosque, and his body will be laid to rest at Al-Asad Cemetery in Jeddah. The deceased is the husband of Hind bint Abdulwahab Banajah and the father of Dr. Omar, Muhammad, Aisha, Khadija, and Mahmoud. Condolences will be received at the family home located in Al-Shate' neighborhood, Al-Khuzama Towers, Prince Faisal bin Fahd Street, Jeddah.
“Okaz,” which was saddened by the news, extends its heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased, asking Allah to envelop him in His vast mercy and grant him a place in His spacious gardens. Indeed, we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.
