دعا الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة أنطونيو غوتيريش إلى وقف فوري للعنف في السودان، محذرا من تدهور الوضع، وحض طرفي الحرب على التفاوض.
وقال غوتيريش على هامش القمة العالمية الثانية للتنمية الاجتماعية في الدوحة اليوم (الثلاثاء): «ضعوا حدا لكابوس العنف هذا الآن»، داعيا القوات المسلحة السودانية والدعم السريع للعمل مع مبعوثه الشخصي إلى السودان للتوصل إلى تسوية تفاوضية «أقبِلوا على طاولة المفاوضات».
ومن المقرر أن يبحث مجلس الأمن والدفاع السوداني برئاسة قائد الجيش عبدالفتاح البرهان، اليوم، مقترح الهدنة الذي تقدّمت به الولايات المتحدة لوضع حد للنزاع الدامي في السودان منذ أكثر من عامين، بحسب مصدر حكومي في بورتسودان.
وقال المصدر، الذي طلب عدم الكشف عن هويته، إن «مجلس الأمن والدفاع سيعقد اجتماعا لبحث مقترح الهدنة الأمريكي».
وتستعد قوات الدعم السريع التي تخوض حربا مع الجيش منذ أبريل 2023، لشن هجوم على ما يبدو على منطقة كردفان (وسط) بعد أن استولت على الفاشر، آخر معاقل الجيش في دارفور، قبل أكثر بقليل من أسبوع.
وأجرى الموفد الأمريكي مسعد بولس سلسلة اجتماعات في القاهرة خلال الأيام الأخيرة، بهدف وضع اللمسات الأخيرة على مقترح الهدنة الإنسانية الذي قُدّم منتصف سبتمبر الماضي، برعاية عدد من الوسطاء، من بينهم السعودية ومصر والإمارات.
وعقد بولس اجتماعا مع وزير الخارجية المصري بدر عبدالعاطي، والأمين العام لجامعة الدول العربية أحمد أبو الغيط.
وشدد عبدالعاطي خلال الاجتماعات على أهمية تضافر الجهود للتوصل إلى هدنة إنسانية ووقف لإطلاق النار في جميع أنحاء السودان بما يمهد الطريق لإطلاق عملية سياسية شاملة في البلاد، وفق بيان للخارجية.
والتقى الموفد الأمريكي، أمس، أبو الغيط، وقدم له شرحا مفصلا حول الجهود الأخيرة في السودان لإيقاف الحرب وإدخال المساعدات بشكل سريع، والبدء في عملية سياسية سودانية-سودانية، وفقا لبيان صادر عن جامعة الدول العربية، مساء الإثنين.
The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for an immediate halt to the violence in Sudan, warning of the deteriorating situation, and urged both warring parties to negotiate.
Guterres said on the sidelines of the second global summit on social development in Doha today (Tuesday): "Put an end to this nightmare of violence now," calling on the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to work with his personal envoy to Sudan to reach a negotiated settlement, "Come to the negotiating table."
The Sudanese Security and Defense Council, chaired by Army Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, is scheduled to discuss today the ceasefire proposal put forward by the United States to end the bloody conflict in Sudan that has lasted for more than two years, according to a government source in Port Sudan.
The source, who requested anonymity, stated that "the Security and Defense Council will hold a meeting to discuss the American ceasefire proposal."
The Rapid Support Forces, which have been at war with the army since April 2023, are reportedly preparing to launch an attack on the Kordofan region (central) after seizing El Fasher, the last stronghold of the army in Darfur, just over a week ago.
The American envoy, Masad Boulos, held a series of meetings in Cairo in recent days, aiming to finalize the humanitarian ceasefire proposal that was presented in mid-September, sponsored by several mediators, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the UAE.
Boulos held a meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atti and the Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
During the meetings, Abdel Atti emphasized the importance of concerted efforts to reach a humanitarian ceasefire and a cessation of hostilities throughout Sudan, paving the way for the launch of a comprehensive political process in the country, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry.
Yesterday, the American envoy met with Aboul Gheit and provided him with a detailed explanation of the recent efforts in Sudan to stop the war, facilitate the rapid delivery of aid, and initiate a Sudanese-Sudanese political process, according to a statement issued by the Arab League on Monday evening.
