في لقاء تاريخي يعيد رسم ملامح الاقتصاد العالمي، التقى الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب برئيس الصين شي جين بينغ، في قاعدة غيمهي الجوية ببوسان جنوب كوريا، في أول مواجهة وجهًا لوجه بينهما منذ ست سنوات.
قمة الساعة و40 دقيقة
استمر الحديث ساعة و40 دقيقة فقط، رغم توقعات ترمب بثلاث أو أربع ساعات، لكنه انتهى بمصافحة دافئة وإعلانات تفاؤلية أشعلت الأسواق وأطفأت مخاوف الحرب التجارية المتفاقمة.
وبحسب صحيفة «الغارديان» أكد ترمب، عائدًا على متن الطائرة الرئاسية «إير فورس وان» إلى واشنطن، أن اللقاء كان «نجاحًا كبيرًا» و«رائعًا بنسبة 12 من 10»، مشيرًا إلى اتفاقات حاسمة على عدة جبهات، أبرزها تسوية الخلاف حول توريد المعادن الأرضية النادرة، التي تسيطر عليها الصين بنسبة شبه كاملة وتُعد أساسية للصناعات الدفاعية والإلكترونية والطاقة.
توافق صيني - أمريكي
وقال ترمب: «لقد انتهى كل شيء بشأن المعادن النادرة، وهذا للعالم كله»، موضحًا أن الصفقة لمدة عام قابل للتمديد سنويًا، مما يزيل «السد الذي كان يعيق التوريد».
كما تعهدت بكين باستئناف شراء فول الصويا الأمريكي، مقابل خفض واشنطن التعريفات الجمركية على السلع الصينية من 57% إلى 47%، بما في ذلك تقليص الرسوم المرتبطة بالفينتانيل – المسكن الاصطناعي المسؤول عن آلاف الوفيات الأمريكية – من 20% إلى 10%.
وأضاف ترمب أن شي وافق على «العمل بجد شديد» لمنع إنتاج هذا المخدر، معتبرًا ذلك خطوة إنسانية واقتصادية معًا.
أوكرانيا بين ترمب وشي
وفي تطور آخر، ناقش الزعيمان قضية أوكرانيا، حيث وصف ترومب الحرب بأنها «برزت بقوة»، وقال إنهما اتفقا على «العمل معًا لإيقاف القتل»، رغم تأكيده أن تايوان لم تُذكر أبدًا في المناقشات، وسط مخاوف تايبيه من تنازلات محتملة.
من جانبه، نقلت وسائل الإعلام الرسمية الصينية عن شي قوله إن الجانبين وصلا إلى «إجماع» على القضايا التجارية، داعيًا إلى «إنهاء الأعمال اللاحقة بأسرع وقت، والحفاظ على الإجماع لتقديم نتائج ملموسة تهدئ الاقتصادات الصينية والأمريكية والعالمية».
وأكد شي أن الولايتين المتحدتين يجب أن «يبقيا على الطريق الصحيح» و«يكونا شريكين وأصدقاء»، ليحققا «إنجازات كبيرة وملموسة لصالح البلدين والعالم».
زيارة ترمب إلى الصين
كما أعلن ترمب زيارته المرتقبة للصين في أبريل القادم، مع وعد بزيارة شي للولايات المتحدة لاحقًا، ربما في فلوريدا أو واشنطن.
جاء اللقاء في سياق تصعيد خطير، حيث هددت الصين بمنع تصدير المعادن النادرة، وردت أمريكا بتهديد تعريفات تصل إلى 100%.
وقبل اللقاء بدقائق، نشر ترمب تغريدة على «تروث سوشيال» يأمر فيها البنتاغون ببدء اختبارات أسلحة نووية بنفس مستوى الصين وروسيا، لكنه تجاهل أسئلة الصحفيين عنها أثناء بدء القمة.
وفي المقابل، ارتفعت الأسهم الصينية إلى أعلى مستوياتها في عقد، ووصل اليوان إلى ذروة قريبة من عام أمام الدولار، قبل أن يتراجع قليلاً بعد اللقاء، الذي لم يقدم دافعًا جديدًا كبيرًا للتفاؤل.
In a historic meeting that redraws the contours of the global economy, U.S. President Donald Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping at Gimhae Air Base in Busan, South Korea, in their first face-to-face encounter in six years.
The 1 Hour and 40 Minute Summit
The discussion lasted only 1 hour and 40 minutes, despite Trump's expectations of three or four hours, but it ended with a warm handshake and optimistic announcements that ignited the markets and quelled fears of escalating trade wars.
According to The Guardian, Trump confirmed, while on board Air Force One returning to Washington, that the meeting was a "great success" and "fantastic at 12 out of 10," pointing to critical agreements on several fronts, most notably resolving the dispute over the supply of rare earth metals, which China controls almost entirely and are essential for defense, electronics, and energy industries.
Chinese-American Consensus
Trump stated, "Everything is settled regarding rare earth metals, and this is for the whole world," explaining that the deal is for one year, renewable annually, thus removing "the dam that was obstructing supply."
Beijing also pledged to resume purchasing U.S. soybeans in exchange for Washington reducing tariffs on Chinese goods from 57% to 47%, including cutting the tariffs related to fentanyl—the synthetic opioid responsible for thousands of American deaths—from 20% to 10%.
Trump added that Xi agreed to "work very hard" to prevent the production of this drug, considering it a humanitarian and economic step together.
Ukraine Between Trump and Xi
In another development, the two leaders discussed the issue of Ukraine, with Trump describing the war as "intensifying," and stating that they agreed to "work together to stop the killing," although he confirmed that Taiwan was never mentioned in the discussions, amid Taipei's fears of potential concessions.
For his part, Chinese state media reported Xi as saying that the two sides reached a "consensus" on trade issues, calling for "the swift conclusion of subsequent business and maintaining the consensus to deliver tangible results that calm the Chinese, American, and global economies."
Xi emphasized that the United States and China must "stay on the right track" and "be partners and friends" to achieve "great and tangible accomplishments for both countries and the world."
Trump's Upcoming Visit to China
Trump also announced his anticipated visit to China next April, with a promise of Xi visiting the United States later, possibly in Florida or Washington.
The meeting came amid a serious escalation, with China threatening to halt the export of rare earth metals, and the U.S. responding with threats of tariffs as high as 100%.
Minutes before the meeting, Trump tweeted on Truth Social ordering the Pentagon to begin nuclear weapons tests at the same level as China and Russia, but he ignored journalists' questions about it at the start of the summit.
In contrast, Chinese stocks rose to their highest levels in a decade, and the yuan reached a near one-year peak against the dollar, before slightly retreating after the meeting, which did not provide a significant new impetus for optimism.
