The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badr Abdel Atti, emphasized Egypt's complete rejection of any plans to divide Sudan, calling for the necessity of adhering to the implementation of the Quartet's statement and the importance of quickly reaching an effective humanitarian ceasefire.

During two phone calls today (Thursday) with both the Senior Advisor to the U.S. President for Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs, Massad Boulos, and the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Tom Fletcher, Abdel Atti discussed the rapidly evolving security and field situations in the Darfur region and the city of El Fasher.

Support for Sudan's Unity

The Egyptian minister stressed during his call with the U.S. President's advisor Egypt's position to support Sudan's unity and territorial integrity, and the complete rejection of any plans to divide Sudan, while working to preserve its national institutions and safeguard the sovereignty and capabilities of the Sudanese people.

Abdel Atti affirmed the necessity of adhering to the implementation of the Quartet's statement issued on September 12, emphasizing the importance of quickly reaching an effective humanitarian ceasefire that paves the way for a comprehensive and permanent cessation of hostilities, establishes a political process led by the Sudanese themselves, and prevents any attempts or plans aimed at dividing the country or undermining its national institutions.

Ensuring Aid Delivery

During the call with the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Humanitarian Affairs, they exchanged views on enhancing the international response to the current Sudanese crisis and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the most affected groups, while Fletcher indicated his intention to provide a briefing to the Security Council regarding the blatant violations occurring in Sudan.

Abdel Atti stated that Cairo continues to provide relief assistance across its shared border with Sudan, alongside its ongoing coordination with the United Nations, the African Union, and international bodies to ensure aid reaches the most affected areas.

Egypt has expressed its concern regarding the recent developments in Sudan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called for taking all possible measures to achieve an immediate humanitarian ceasefire throughout Sudan.

Victims, Chaos, and Hunger

The crisis in the Darfur region is worsening, especially after nearly 2,000 people were killed by the Rapid Support Forces in El Fasher within just two days, according to reports and witnesses.

The spokesperson for the Sudanese Doctors' Syndicate confirmed that the number of dead is much higher, stressing that the state of chaos hinders the counting of victims.

He added that many Sudanese, including women and children, have died on the way from El Fasher to Tawila due to the war and hunger.
