اعتباراً من الثلاثاء القادم، يبدأ الرئيس الفرنسي السابق نيكولا ساركوزي، تنفيذ حكم السجن 5 سنوات بتهمة التآمر الجنائي فيما يتعلق بمحاولات جمع أموال لحملته الانتخابية عام 2007 من ليبيا.
ولدى خروجه من المحكمة الجنائية في باريس بعد صدور الحكم بحقه في 25 سبتمبر الماض قال ساركوزي: «سأتحمل مسؤولياتي وسأمتثل لاستدعاءات القضاء، وإن أرادوا حقّاً أن أنام في السجن، فسأفعل ذلك، لكن مرفوع الرأس لأنني بريء».
زنزانة انفرادية 9 أمتار
وفيما يعتزم محاموه تقديم طلب بالإفراج المؤقت عنه فور دخوله السجن،
يتوقع سجن ساركوزي في واحدة من الزنزانات الـ15 البالغة مساحتها 9 أمتار مربعة في قسم الحبس الانفرادي، بحسب ما كشف عاملون في السجون مطلعون على الظروف في سجن «لا سانتي»، المعتقل الوحيد في العاصمة الفرنسية.
وحسب المصادر، فإن هذا السجن سيجنب الرئيس السابق التفاعل مع المعتقلين الآخرين من أجل ضمان سلامته ومنع التقاط صور له بواسطة الهواتف النقالة المنتشرة بشكل واسع في السجن.
بانتظار محكمة الاستئناف
ونفى ساركوزي أي خطة للحصول على تمويل ليبي للحملة الانتخابية التي أوصلته إلى الرئاسة عام 2007 وشبّه نفسه بأشهر مدانين بريئين في التاريخ والأدب الفرنسي، وهما ألفريد دريفوس وإدمون دانتيس، الكونت دو مونتي كريستو.
ودعا ابنه لوي عبر منصة «إكس» الجميع إلى «المجيء للتعبير عن دعمهم لنيكولا ساركوزي» بالقرب من منزل الرئيس السابق صباح الثلاثاء.
وأثار القضاة في 25 سبتمبر الذهول في قاعة المحاكمة بإصدارهم أمراً بإيداعه السجن بالتزامن مع حكم إدانته بـ «التآمر الجنائي»، دون انتظار محاكمة الاستئناف التي من المقرر أن تُعقد قبل الصيف.
وأدين ساركوزي بالسماح لأقرب معاونَين له حين كان وزيراً للداخلية هما بريس أورتوفو وكلود غيان بالتواصل مع الزعيم الليبي السابق معمر القذافي للحصول على تمويل غير قانوني لحملته الانتخابية.
وسيكون أمام محكمة الاستئناف شهران للنظر في طلب الإفراج المؤقت عن ساركوزي، لكن من المتوقع أن تعقد الجلسة بشكل أسرع.
عزلة وإفراج منتظر
وبانتظار إفراج محتمل، سيواجه ساركوزي العزلة إذ ينص نظام الحبس الانفرادي على نزهة واحدة في اليوم في باحة صغيرة لا تتجاوز مساحتها بضعة أمتار مربعة، مع إمكان وصوله إلى واحدة من قاعات الرياضة الثلاث في السجن أو إلى القاعة المستخدمة مكتبةً.
وسيكون الرئيس السابق برفقة حارس واحد على الأقل خلال تنقلاته للذهاب إلى غرفة الزيارات أو لمعاينة طبيب، وستفرض إجراءات معروفة بـ«الحجب» لمنع أي تواصل مع سجناء آخرين.
Starting next Tuesday, former French President Nicolas Sarkozy will begin serving a 5-year prison sentence for criminal conspiracy related to attempts to raise funds for his 2007 election campaign from Libya.
Upon leaving the criminal court in Paris after the verdict was issued against him on September 25, Sarkozy said: “I will take my responsibilities and I will comply with the summons of the judiciary, and if they really want me to sleep in prison, I will do so, but with my head held high because I am innocent.”
9-Meter Solitary Cell
While his lawyers intend to file a request for his temporary release as soon as he enters prison,
Sarkozy is expected to be held in one of the 15 solitary confinement cells, each measuring 9 square meters, according to prison workers familiar with the conditions at "La Santé," the only prison in the French capital.
According to sources, this prison will spare the former president from interacting with other inmates to ensure his safety and prevent photos of him from being taken by the widely available mobile phones in the prison.
Awaiting the Court of Appeal
Sarkozy denied any plan to obtain Libyan funding for the election campaign that brought him to the presidency in 2007 and likened himself to the most famous innocent convicts in history and French literature, Alfred Dreyfus and Edmond Dantès, the Count of Monte Cristo.
His son Louis called on everyone via the "X" platform to “come and express their support for Nicolas Sarkozy” near the former president's home on Tuesday morning.
The judges stunned the courtroom on September 25 by issuing an order for his imprisonment simultaneously with his conviction for “criminal conspiracy,” without waiting for the appeal trial, which is scheduled to take place before summer.
Sarkozy was convicted of allowing his two closest aides when he was Minister of the Interior, Brice Hortefeux and Claude Guéant, to communicate with the former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi to obtain illegal funding for his election campaign.
The Court of Appeal will have two months to consider the request for Sarkozy's temporary release, but the session is expected to be held sooner.
Isolation and Anticipated Release
While awaiting a possible release, Sarkozy will face isolation as the solitary confinement system allows for only one outing per day in a small yard not exceeding a few square meters, with access to one of the three gymnasiums in the prison or to the room used as a library.
The former president will be accompanied by at least one guard during his movements to the visiting room or to see a doctor, and procedures known as “blocking” will be imposed to prevent any communication with other inmates.
