يستعد الرئيس الفرنسي السابق نيكولا ساركوزي لدخول سجن «لا سانتيه» في باريس يوم 21 أكتوبر الجاري، لتنفيذ حكم بالسجن لمدة 5 سنوات صدر بحقه في قضية التمويل غير القانوني لحملته الانتخابية عام 2007، وفق ما نقلته مصادر قضائية فرنسية.
أول رئيس أوروبي سابق يُسجن
وبذلك، سيُصبح ساركوزي (70 عاماً) الذي قاد فرنسا بين 2007 و2012، أول رئيس سابق لدولة في الاتحاد الأوروبي يُسجن فعليا بعد إدانته بجرائم مالية.
ولا تضم منطقة باريس الكبرى سوى مركزَي احتجاز يضمّان «قسماً للحماية» يضمن أمن الرئيس السابق، هما سجن «لا سانتيه» في باريس وسجن «فلوري ميروغي» في جنوب العاصمة.
ولم يُعلق محامي ساركوزي كريستوف إنغران، ولا النيابة العامة المالية على تاريخ ومكان سجنه، وهو أمرٌ غير مسبوق في تاريخ فرنسا.
في 25 سبتمبر، قضت محكمة باريسية بسجن ساركوزي خمس سنوات بعدما «سمح لمقربين منه» بالتواصل مع الزعيم الليبي السابق معمر القذافي للحصول على تمويل غير قانوني لحملته الانتخابية في 2007.
ورغم استئنافه الحكم، سيُسجن ساركوزي بموجب مذكرة توقيف مؤجلة «مع التنفيذ الموقت» صادرة بحقه، وهو إجراء عزته المحكمة الى «الخطورة الاستثنائية للأفعال» التي ارتكبها مسؤول سياسي كان يطمح آنذاك إلى أعلى منصب في الجمهورية.
وعلى عكس المُدانَين الآخرين في هذه القضية، الوسيط ألكسندر جوهري والمصرفي وهيب ناصر، مُنح ساركوزي مهلة قبل دخوله السجن ليتخذ الترتيبات اللازمة بشأن التزاماته المهنية.
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy is preparing to enter the "La Santé" prison in Paris on October 21, to serve a five-year prison sentence issued against him in the case of illegal financing of his 2007 election campaign, according to French judicial sources.
First Former European President to Be Imprisoned
Thus, Sarkozy (70 years old), who led France from 2007 to 2012, will become the first former president of a country in the European Union to be actually imprisoned after being convicted of financial crimes.
The Greater Paris area only has two detention centers that include a "protection wing" to ensure the former president's safety, namely the "La Santé" prison in Paris and the "Fleury-Mérogis" prison in the south of the capital.
Sarkozy's lawyer, Christophe Ingraham, and the financial prosecutor's office have not commented on the date and location of his imprisonment, which is unprecedented in French history.
On September 25, a Paris court sentenced Sarkozy to five years in prison after he "allowed close associates" to communicate with former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi to obtain illegal financing for his 2007 election campaign.
Despite appealing the ruling, Sarkozy will be imprisoned under a deferred arrest warrant "with provisional execution" issued against him, a measure the court attributed to the "exceptional seriousness of the acts" committed by a political official who aspired at the time to the highest office in the republic.
Unlike the other convicted individuals in this case, intermediary Alexandre Djouhri and banker Waheb Nacer, Sarkozy was granted a grace period before entering prison to make necessary arrangements regarding his professional obligations.
