أدلى الناخبون في الكاميرون اليوم بأصواتهم في انتخابات رئاسية يُتوقع أن تمدد حكم الرئيس بول بيا (92 عاماً)، أكبر حكام العالم سنّاً، الذي يتولى السلطة منذ (43) عاماً.
ويواجه بيا منافسة من المتحدث الحكومي السابق عيسى تشيروما (76 عاماً)، المدعوم من قوى معارضة تطالب بإنهاء حكمه، إلا أن المحللين يرجحون فوزه مجدداً بفضل سيطرته على أجهزة الدولة وانقسام خصومه التسعة.
وأدلى بيا بصوته في حي باستوس بالعاصمة ياوندي، قائلاً: "لننتظر ونرى اسم الفائز"، وسط إجراءات أمنية مشددة وإقبال واسع من الناخبين.
وتعيش البلاد ركوداً اقتصاديّاً منذ عقود، رغم مواردها من النفط والكاكاو. ويأمل المعارضون في التغيير بعد سنوات من الحكم الطويل.
يبلغ عدد الناخبين نحو (8) ملايين، وبدأ التصويت عند (07:00) بتوقيت غرينتش حتى (17:00)، فيما يُنتظر إعلان النتائج خلال (15) يوماً.
وتُجرى الانتخابات بجولة واحدة يفوز فيها من ينال الأغلبية البسيطة، في حين يخوض بيا سباقه الثامن تحت شعار «المجد والأمل».

Biya faces competition from former government spokesman Issa Tchiroma (76 years old), backed by opposition forces calling for an end to his rule, but analysts predict his victory again due to his control over state apparatus and the division among his nine opponents.
Biya cast his vote in the Bastos neighborhood of the capital, Yaoundé, saying: "Let’s wait and see the name of the winner," amid tight security measures and a high turnout from voters.
The country has been experiencing economic stagnation for decades, despite its oil and cocoa resources. Opponents hope for change after years of long rule.
The number of voters is around 8 million, and voting began at 07:00 GMT until 17:00, with results expected to be announced within 15 days.
The elections are conducted in a single round, with the winner being the one who receives a simple majority, while Biya is running for his eighth term under the slogan "Glory and Hope."
