The incident of lighting the rock of Raouche did not go unnoticed by the former Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, at the governmental palace, as Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam decided this morning (Friday) to cancel all his appointments, placing the issue at the top of his priorities, receiving supportive political figures who backed his firm stance in facing what he considered a direct challenge to the state's dignity.
While the Lebanese street was preoccupied with the political and popular repercussions of the incident, Nawaf Salam chose to gather the ministers around one table and called for a meeting this afternoon at the governmental palace, which quickly turned into an extensive discussion session that included a large number of ministers. During this session, the circumstances and implications were reviewed, leading to the formulation of a unified government position.
The direction was clear, as the security agencies were held largely responsible for enforcing the law without exception or discrimination, emphasizing that what happened in Raouche represents a blatant violation of the terms of the permit granted for the gathering.
Thus, the government sent a dual message: the first to the internal audience that the law applies to everyone, and the second to the external audience that the state institutions are still capable of asserting their authority.
At the end of the discussion, the Prime Minister reiterated that there would be no leniency with any attempt to incite strife or fuel hatred. The session emphasized the unity of the Lebanese people and that maintaining national stability is a red line that will not be crossed.
