أعلن جهاز الأمن الروسي اعتقال ثلاثة أشخاص في سانت بطرسبورج أثناء التحضير لاغتيال رئيس إحدى مؤسسات الدفاع الروسية. وقالت السلطات إن المعتقلين كانوا يعملون بناءً على تعليمات من الاستخبارات الأوكرانية، في محاولة تستهدف أحد المسؤولين البارزين في القطاع الدفاعي.
انتقادات للمواقف الأوروبية

يأتي تصريح ويتاكر متسقاً مع ما صرّح به وزير الخارجية ماركو روبيو، الذي شدد على أن الدول الأوروبية الراغبة في زيادة العقوبات على موسكو يجب أن تفرض قيوداً مماثلة بشكل مستقل قبل مطالبة واشنطن بالتحرك.
كما دعا الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب الأوروبيين إلى التوقف عن شراء النفط الروسي، مؤكداً استعداده لتصعيد العقوبات إذا التزم جميع أعضاء الناتو بالخطوة ذاتها.
التحديات في العقوبات
يواجه الاتحاد الأوروبي صعوبة في توحيد مواقفه الداخلية بشأن تشديد العقوبات ضد روسيا. فقد أُجّل أخيرا بحث الحزمة التاسعة عشرة من العقوبات، وسط خلافات بين الدول الأعضاء حول تأثيرها الاقتصادي.
وأشارت صحيفة «بوليتيكو» إلى اعتراض سلوفاكيا والمجر على أي تشديد إضافي، معتبرتين أن الاقتصاد في بلديهما لا يزال يعتمد بشكل كبير على الطاقة الروسية.

Meanwhile, the U.S. ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, criticized what he described as the double standards of European positions towards Russia. He pointed out that Washington's allies cannot demand that the United States intensify pressure on Moscow while they continue to import Russian oil.
In an interview with Fox News, Whitaker said: "It doesn't make sense for them to ask the United States to be at the forefront while they don't want to take the same steps."
Consistent Positions
Whitaker's statement is consistent with what Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated, emphasizing that European countries wishing to increase sanctions on Moscow should impose similar restrictions independently before asking Washington to take action.
U.S. President Donald Trump also urged Europeans to stop buying Russian oil, affirming his readiness to escalate sanctions if all NATO members commit to the same step.
Challenges in Sanctions
The European Union is facing difficulties in unifying its internal positions regarding tightening sanctions against Russia. The discussion of the nineteenth sanctions package has recently been postponed amid disagreements among member states about its economic impact.
The Politico newspaper noted Slovakia and Hungary's objections to any additional tightening, considering that their economies still heavily rely on Russian energy.
