أعلن الجيش الصيني، اليوم (الأحد)، أنه أجرى دوريات روتينية في بحر الصين الجنوبي، محذراً الفلبين من أي استفزازات.
وتشهد الدولتان نزاعاً بحرياً طويل الأمد في هذا الممر المائي الاستراتيجي، شمل صدامات متكررة بين سفن خفر السواحل ومناورات بحرية ضخمة.
تحذيرات صينية للفلبين
وقال متحدث باسم قيادة المسرح الجنوبي للجيش الصيني: على الفلبين التوقف فوراً عن الاستفزازات وتصعيد التوترات في بحر الصين الجنوبي، مُضيفًا: «نحذّر الفلبين بشدة، وعليها التوقف عن إثارة الحوادث وتصعيد التوترات، وعدم إشراك قوى خارجية في جهود محكوم عليها بالفشل، أي محاولة لإثارة الاضطرابات أو تعكير الوضع لن تنجح».
وتدعي الصين سيادتها على معظم بحر الصين الجنوبي، وهو ممر تجاري حيوي بقيمة تجارة سنوية تتجاوز 3 تريليونات دولار، رغم وجود مطالبات متداخلة من دول أخرى مثل الفلبين وبروناي وماليزيا وفيتنام.
مناورات بحرية مشتركة بين أمريكا واليابان والفلبين
وأفادت قيادة منطقة المحيطين الهندي والهادئ الأمريكية أن اليابان والفلبين والولايات المتحدة أجرت مناورات بحرية مشتركة في المنطقة الاقتصادية الخالصة للفلبين من الخميس إلى السبت لتعزيز التعاون الإقليمي ودعم منطقة المحيطين الهندي والهادئ الحرة والمفتوحة.
وأضافت: «الولايات المتحدة، مع حلفائها وشركائها، تدعم حرية الملاحة والطيران والاستخدامات القانونية الأخرى للبحر والمجال الجوي الدولي، مع احترام الحقوق البحرية بموجب القانون الدولي».
دعم أمريكي للفلبين
فيما أكد وزير الخارجية الأمريكي ماركو روبيو، يوم الجمعة، دعم الولايات المتحدة للفلبين، رافضاً ما وصفه بـ«الخطط المزعزعة للاستقرار»، التي تتبعها الصين بشأن جزيرة مرجانية متنازع عليها في بحر الصين الجنوبي.
The Chinese military announced today (Sunday) that it conducted routine patrols in the South China Sea, warning the Philippines against any provocations.
The two countries have a long-standing maritime dispute in this strategic waterway, which has included repeated clashes between coast guard ships and large-scale naval maneuvers.
Chinese Warnings to the Philippines
A spokesperson for the Southern Theater Command of the Chinese military stated: The Philippines must immediately stop provocations and escalating tensions in the South China Sea, adding: “We strongly warn the Philippines to cease stirring up incidents and escalating tensions, and not to involve external forces in efforts doomed to fail; any attempt to incite disturbances or disrupt the situation will not succeed.”
China claims sovereignty over most of the South China Sea, a vital trade route with annual trade exceeding $3 trillion, despite overlapping claims from other countries such as the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
Joint Naval Exercises Between the U.S., Japan, and the Philippines
The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command reported that Japan, the Philippines, and the United States conducted joint naval exercises in the Philippines' exclusive economic zone from Thursday to Saturday to enhance regional cooperation and support a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
It added: “The United States, along with its allies and partners, supports freedom of navigation and overflight and other lawful uses of the sea and airspace, while respecting maritime rights under international law.”
U.S. Support for the Philippines
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed on Friday the United States' support for the Philippines, rejecting what he described as “destabilizing plans” being pursued by China regarding a disputed reef in the South China Sea.
