طالب وزير خارجية حركة طالبان الأفغانية، أمير خان متقي، اليوم (السبت)، بتطبيع العلاقات مع الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، وذلك عقب لقائه المبعوث الأمريكي الخاص لشؤون الرهائن آدم بولر والمبعوث الخاص السابق لأفغانستان زلماي خليل زاد.
وقالت وزارة الخارجية الأفغانية في بيان، إن اللقاء ناقش قضية المحتجزين في أفغانستان، مبينة أن رئيس الوفد الأمريكي قال إن بلاده تحترم حرية اختيار الشعوب، ولا تسعى إلى فرض أي شيء على الشعب الأفغاني.
وأفرجت طالبان في مارس الماضي، عن المواطن الأمريكي الذي كان محتجزاً في أفغانستان لأكثر من عامين، وذلك عقب محادثات بين المبعوث الأمريكي لشؤون الرهائن آدم بولر ومسؤولين من طالبان في كابل.
واحتجز جليزمان عام 2022 في أثناء زيارته لكابل كسائح، كما أفرجت عن مواطن أمريكي آخر، ويُعتقد أن مواطناً أميركياً ثالثاً يدعى محمود حبيبي ما زال محتجزاً في أفغانستان.
وكانت الولايات المتحدة قد أفرجت في يناير الماضي عن أفغاني أدانته محكمة أمريكية في اتهامات تتعلق بتهريب المخدرات والإرهاب مقابل المواطنين الأمريكيين.
The Afghan Taliban's Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, called today (Saturday) for the normalization of relations with the United States, following his meeting with the U.S. Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs Adam Bolar and former Special Envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad.
The Afghan Foreign Ministry stated in a statement that the meeting discussed the issue of detainees in Afghanistan, noting that the head of the U.S. delegation said that his country respects the freedom of choice of peoples and does not seek to impose anything on the Afghan people.
The Taliban released an American citizen in March who had been detained in Afghanistan for more than two years, following talks between U.S. hostage envoy Adam Bolar and Taliban officials in Kabul.
Gleisman was detained in 2022 while visiting Kabul as a tourist, and another American citizen was also released. It is believed that a third American citizen named Mahmoud Habibi is still being held in Afghanistan.
The United States had released an Afghan in January who was convicted by a U.S. court on charges related to drug trafficking and terrorism in exchange for American citizens.
