اعتقلت الشرطة البريطانية 890 شخصاً خلال احتجاج، أقيم أمس (السبت)، ضد قرار تصنيف حركة «فلسطين أكشن» منظمة إرهابية، بينهم 17 شخصاً بتهمة الاعتداء على عناصر الشرطة، بحسب ما أعلنته شرطة لندن اليوم (الأحد).
ووصفت شرطة لندن الاعتداءات التي تعرض له أفرادها بـ«غير المقبولة»، مبينة أن عملية الاعتقال جرت استناداً إلى قانون مكافحة الإرهاب لعام 2000، بحسب ما نقلته شبكة «سكاي نيوز» البريطانية.

أشارت الشرطة إلى أن 33 شخصاً آخرين من المشاركين في الاحتجاجات التي جرت في ساحة البرلمان في لندن، اعتقلوا بتهم أخرى، بينما تم احتجاز 17 منهم للاشتباه في قيامهم بالاعتداء على عناصر الشرطة.
وأوضحت نائبة مساعد مفوض الشرطة كلير سمارت أنه أثناء أداء مهماتهم، تعرض الضباط للضرب والركل والبصق، وأُلقيت عليهم أشياء من جانب المحتجين، مشددة بالقول: «من غير المقبول أن يتعرض من تقع على عاتقهم مهمة فرض القانون وحماية الناس لمثل هذا المستوى من الاعتداء».

أشارت سمارت إلى أن أكثر من 25 من الموقوفين كانت تهمتهم الاعتداء، مبينة التكتيكات التي اعتمدها داعمو «فلسطين أكشن» في محاولتهم إرباك النظام القضائي، إضافةً إلى مستوى العنف الذي ظهر في صفوف الحشد، واستدعى موارد كبيرة وأخرج الضباط من أحيائهم على حساب سكان لندن الذين يعتمدون عليهم.
بالمقابل، اعتبر المتحدث باسم الدفاع عن هيئات المحلفين أن التجمع كان صورة للاحتجاج السلمي، واصفاً تصريحات شرطة العاصمة عن تعرض ضباطها لاعتداءات بأنها ادعاء مثير للدهشة.

The police noted that 33 other individuals participating in the protests that took place in Parliament Square in London were arrested on other charges, while 17 of them were detained on suspicion of assaulting police officers.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Claire Smart explained that while carrying out their duties, officers were punched, kicked, and spat on, and objects were thrown at them by protesters, emphasizing: "It is unacceptable for those tasked with enforcing the law and protecting people to be subjected to such levels of assault."

Smart pointed out that more than 25 of the detainees were charged with assault, outlining the tactics employed by supporters of "Palestine Action" in their attempts to disrupt the judicial system, in addition to the level of violence that emerged within the crowd, which required significant resources and took officers away from their neighborhoods at the expense of London residents who rely on them.
In contrast, a spokesperson for the defense of juries considered the gathering to be a picture of peaceful protest, describing the Metropolitan Police's statements about their officers being assaulted as a surprising claim.
