أعلن اللواء «444 قتال»، التابع لرئاسة أركان الجيش الليبي بحكومة الوحدة الوطنية، عن تصديه لهجوم إرهابي استهدف محيط أحد معسكراته في مدينة بني وليد، شمال غرب ليبيا أمس (الثلاثاء).
وأفاد بيان رسمي صادر عن اللواء أن انتحاريا فجر سيارة مفخخة أمام بوابة المعسكر في محاولة لإلحاق أضرار بشرية ومادية، إلا أن الاستجابة السريعة لقوات اللواء حالت دون وقوع أي خسائر في الأرواح أو الأضرار المادية.
وأكد البيان أن التحقيقات بدأت فور وقوع الحادث لتحديد هوية المهاجم والجهة المنظمة للهجوم، مشددا على استمرار اللواء في مهماته بكامل الجاهزية لحماية المنطقة وملاحقة العناصر الإرهابية، مشيرا إلى أن الهجوم يأتي وسط تحركات عسكرية مشبوهة في غرب ليبيا.
ورصدت وسائل إعلام محلية تحركات لمجموعات مسلحة موالية ومعارضة لحكومة الوحدة الوطنية بقيادة عبدالحميد الدبيبة، وحذرت بعثة الأمم المتحدة للدعم في ليبيا من تصاعد التوترات الأمنية التي قد تؤدي إلى مواجهات مسلحة في العاصمة طرابلس، داعية الأطراف إلى ضبط النفس ومواصلة المفاوضات تحت إشراف المجلس الرئاسي.
وأكد اللواء «444 قتال» في بيانه أن مثل هذه «الأساليب الجبانة» لن تثنيه عن مواصلة جهوده في بسط الأمن ومكافحة الإرهاب والجريمة المنظمة في المنطقة، في حين أثار الهجوم قلقا واسعا بين سكان بني وليد، حيث عبر مواطنون عبر منصة «إكس» عن مخاوفهم من تصاعد العنف.
واللواء «444 قتال» هو تشكيل عسكري تابع لوزارة الدفاع بحكومة الوحدة الوطنية في طرابلس، وتأسس اللواء عام 2021 بعد انشقاق «كتيبة 20-20» عن قوة الردع الخاصة، ويُعد من أبرز القوات النظامية في غرب ليبيا، ويتمركز في معسكر التكبالي جنوب طرابلس وينتشر في مدن مثل بني وليد وترهونة.
ويضطلع اللواء بمهمات أمنية تشمل مكافحة؛ الإرهاب، وتهريب الوقود، والاتجار بالبشر، والجريمة المنظمة، ومنذ تأسيسه، نجح في إحباط عدة عمليات تهريب، وتحرير رهائن، كما أسهم في استعادة الاستقرار في مناطق جنوب طرابلس بعد طرد مجموعات مسلحة غير نظامية.
وتُعد مدينة بني وليد، التي شهدت الهجوم، إحدى المدن الإستراتيجية في غرب ليبيا، وكانت في السابق معقلا لمجموعات مسلحة مرتبطة بنظام معمر القذافي، ومنذ سقوط النظام عام 2011، تشهد ليبيا انقساما سياسيا وعسكريا بين حكومة الوحدة الوطنية في طرابلس، بقيادة عبدالحميد الدبيبة، وحكومة موازية في الشرق مدعومة من المشير خليفة حفتر.
The "444 Combat" Brigade, affiliated with the General Staff of the Libyan Army under the Government of National Unity, announced its response to a terrorist attack that targeted the vicinity of one of its camps in the city of Bani Walid, northwest Libya, yesterday (Tuesday).
An official statement issued by the brigade indicated that a suicide bomber detonated an explosive-laden vehicle in front of the camp's gate in an attempt to cause human and material damage; however, the rapid response of the brigade's forces prevented any loss of life or material damage.
The statement confirmed that investigations began immediately after the incident to identify the attacker and the organization behind the attack, emphasizing the brigade's continued readiness to protect the area and pursue terrorist elements, noting that the attack comes amid suspicious military movements in western Libya.
Local media reported movements of armed groups loyal to and opposing the Government of National Unity led by Abdulhamid Dbeibah, and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya warned of escalating security tensions that could lead to armed confrontations in the capital, Tripoli, calling on the parties to exercise restraint and continue negotiations under the supervision of the Presidential Council.
The "444 Combat" Brigade affirmed in its statement that such "cowardly methods" will not deter it from continuing its efforts to establish security and combat terrorism and organized crime in the region, while the attack raised widespread concern among the residents of Bani Walid, as citizens expressed their fears of escalating violence through the "X" platform.
The "444 Combat" Brigade is a military formation under the Ministry of Defense of the Government of National Unity in Tripoli, established in 2021 after the "20-20 Brigade" split from the Special Deterrence Force. It is considered one of the prominent regular forces in western Libya, stationed at the Takbali camp south of Tripoli and deployed in cities such as Bani Walid and Tarhuna.
The brigade undertakes security missions that include combating terrorism, fuel smuggling, human trafficking, and organized crime. Since its establishment, it has successfully thwarted several smuggling operations, rescued hostages, and contributed to restoring stability in areas south of Tripoli after expelling irregular armed groups.
Bani Walid, the city that witnessed the attack, is one of the strategic cities in western Libya and was previously a stronghold for armed groups linked to the regime of Muammar Gaddafi. Since the fall of the regime in 2011, Libya has experienced political and military division between the Government of National Unity in Tripoli, led by Abdulhamid Dbeibah, and a parallel government in the east supported by Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
