في حفل مهيب أقيم أمس (الثلاثاء) بمقر السفارة الفرنسية بالقاهرة، تسلم وزير السياحة والآثار المصري السابق المرشح لمنصب المدير العام لمنظمة اليونسكو الدكتور خالد العناني، وسام جوقة الشرف برتبة فارس، وهو من أرفع الأوسمة الوطنية الفرنسية.
الحفل، الذي حضره وزراء وسفراء وشخصيات سياسية وثقافية من مصر ونحو 50 دولة، شهد تكريما استثنائيا لمسيرة العناني المتميزة في دعم التعليم، الثقافة، والحوار الحضاري.
وسلم السفير الفرنسي بالقاهرة إيريك شوفالييه، الوسام للوزير السابق خالد العناني، مشيدا في كلمته بالإسهامات العلمية والثقافية للعناني، ودوره البارز في تعزيز العلاقات المصرية الفرنسية على مدى ثلاثة عقود.
وأشار السفير إلى أن هذا التكريم يعكس تقدير فرنسا لجهود العناني في بناء جسور السلام والتعاون بين الشعوب، مؤكدا دعم بلاده القوي لترشيحه لمنصب المدير العام لليونسكو، وهي خطوة أُعلن عنها رسميا في نوفمبر 2024.
من جهته، عبر العناني عن شكره العميق للرئيس الفرنسي إيمانويل ماكرون والدولة الفرنسية، مؤكدا أن الوسام يمثل مسؤولية كبيرة لتعزيز قيم التعليم والعلم والثقافة عالميا.
وأضاف أن التحديات العالمية الراهنة، مثل التغير المناخي والصراعات الثقافية، تتطلب تضافر الجهود لوضع الثقافة في صميم الحلول، مشددا على أهمية الحوار بين الحضارات لتحقيق السلام المستدام.
يُعد الدكتور خالد العناني، أستاذ علم المصريات بجامعة حلوان، من الشخصيات الأكاديمية والثقافية البارزة في مصر، بدأ مسيرته باحثا وأكاديميا، ثم تولى إدارة المتحف المصري بالتحرير والمتحف القومي للحضارة المصرية، قبل أن يصبح وزيرا للآثار (2016 - 2019) ثم وزيرا للسياحة والآثار (2019 - 2022).
وخلال فترته الوزارية، أشرف على مشاريع ضخمة، منها المتحف المصري الكبير، وتنظيم موكب المومياوات الملكية، وإحياء طريق الكباش بالأقصر، كما ساهم في تنظيم معارض دولية، أبرزها معرض توت عنخ آمون: كنوز الفرعون في باريس عام 2019، الذي جذب أكثر من 1.4 مليون زائر، مسجلا رقما قياسيا في تاريخ المعارض الفرنسية.
حصل العناني على العديد من الأوسمة الدولية، منها وسام الفنون والآداب الفرنسي، ووسام الشمس المشرقة من اليابان، ووسام الاستحقاق من بولندا، إلى جانب تكريمه من منظمة السياحة العالمية، ويحظى ترشيحه لمنصب المدير العام لليونسكو بدعم قوي من الاتحاد الأفريقي، وجامعة الدول العربية، ودول كبرى مثل فرنسا وإيطاليا.
في حال انتخابه، سيصبح العناني أول مدير عام لليونسكو من العالم العربي، وثاني مدير من أفريقيا منذ تأسيس المنظمة عام 1945، كما يُنظر إلى ترشيحه كفرصة تاريخية لتعزيز التمثيل العربي والأفريقي في المنظمات الدولية، خصوصا في ظل دوره المشهود في حماية التراث الثقافي وتعزيز السياحة المستدامة.
In a grand ceremony held yesterday (Tuesday) at the French Embassy in Cairo, the former Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities and candidate for the position of Director-General of UNESCO, Dr. Khaled El-Anany, received the Order of the Legion of Honor at the rank of Knight, which is one of the highest national honors in France.
The event, attended by ministers, ambassadors, and political and cultural figures from Egypt and around 50 countries, featured an exceptional tribute to El-Anany's distinguished career in supporting education, culture, and civil dialogue.
The French Ambassador to Cairo, Éric Chevalier, presented the award to the former minister Khaled El-Anany, praising in his speech El-Anany's scientific and cultural contributions, as well as his prominent role in strengthening Egyptian-French relations over three decades.
The ambassador noted that this honor reflects France's appreciation for El-Anany's efforts in building bridges of peace and cooperation between peoples, affirming his country's strong support for his candidacy for the position of Director-General of UNESCO, a step that was officially announced in November 2024.
For his part, El-Anany expressed his deep gratitude to French President Emmanuel Macron and the French state, emphasizing that the award represents a significant responsibility to promote the values of education, science, and culture globally.
He added that the current global challenges, such as climate change and cultural conflicts, require concerted efforts to place culture at the heart of solutions, stressing the importance of dialogue between civilizations to achieve sustainable peace.
Dr. Khaled El-Anany, a professor of Egyptology at Helwan University, is one of the prominent academic and cultural figures in Egypt. He began his career as a researcher and academic, then took over the management of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, before becoming Minister of Antiquities (2016 - 2019) and then Minister of Tourism and Antiquities (2019 - 2022).
During his ministerial tenure, he oversaw massive projects, including the Grand Egyptian Museum, the organization of the Royal Mummy Parade, and the revival of the Avenue of Sphinxes in Luxor. He also contributed to organizing international exhibitions, most notably the Tutankhamun: Treasures of the Pharaoh exhibition in Paris in 2019, which attracted over 1.4 million visitors, setting a record in the history of French exhibitions.
El-Anany has received numerous international honors, including the French Order of Arts and Letters, the Order of the Rising Sun from Japan, and the Order of Merit from Poland, along with recognition from the World Tourism Organization. His candidacy for the position of Director-General of UNESCO enjoys strong support from the African Union, the Arab League, and major countries such as France and Italy.
If elected, El-Anany would become the first Director-General of UNESCO from the Arab world and the second director from Africa since the organization's founding in 1945. His candidacy is viewed as a historic opportunity to enhance Arab and African representation in international organizations, especially given his notable role in protecting cultural heritage and promoting sustainable tourism.
