The Israeli occupation army acknowledged today (Saturday) that 7 of its soldiers were injured in northern Gaza Strip, just hours after its spokesperson denied any operations in the area.
The Israeli army radio clarified that an armored personnel carrier was hit by an explosive device in the Zeitoun neighborhood in the north of the strip, during an operation carried out by the 99th Division and the 7th Brigade. It noted that two soldiers were moderately injured and were transported to the hospital, while five others left after receiving treatment.
For its part, Israeli media reported that during the fighting in the Zeitoun neighborhood, there were fears of missing soldiers, but it later became clear that the four soldiers who had lost contact were found safe and sound. The same media had previously reported one dead, 11 injured, and 4 missing among the army due to an ambush by Palestinian factions in the neighborhood.
The spokesperson for the Israeli army, Avichai Adraee, had denied on Friday that any operations were taking place in Gaza, before the military institution retracted and acknowledged the attack.
In this context, Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that the occupation army is pushing residents south in preparation for the anticipated "Gideon's Chariots II" operation, expecting new evacuation orders to be issued during the coming week, noting that the security cabinet will meet tomorrow evening (Sunday) to review the progress of operations.
For her part, the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross confirmed that evacuating the city of Gaza in a safe manner that preserves dignity under the current circumstances is "impossible".
On the ground, the death toll from the Israeli bombardment on Gaza since dawn today has risen to 45 dead and dozens injured.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced today that 66 Palestinians were killed and 345 others were injured in Israeli airstrikes over the past 24 hours, confirming that the number of victims of the Israeli aggression since October 7, 2023, has risen to 63,371 martyrs and 159,835 wounded.
