Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called for moving away from sectarian, confessional, and partisan alleys towards a single party, which is Lebanon.
Aoun emphasized that "the Lebanon of sects does not create a state; rather, it is the state that protects all sects and preserves the homeland." According to the presidential office, Aoun confirmed during a meeting with a number of businessmen today (Monday) the necessity of rallying under one flag.
He praised the government's work, which has made unprecedented decisions, stating that the Cabinet is a platform for exchanging opinions and making decisions after discussion, and this is indeed what is happening, resulting in decisions that have never been made before.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah and the Amal Movement today called for demonstrations in the streets this Wednesday, rejecting the government's decisions to disarm the party. The "Shia duo" described in their statement the "weapon of resistance" as honorable and defending the homeland, calling for the rejection of external pressures.
It is noteworthy that this is the first time Hezbollah has officially called for action in the streets in rejection of the government's decision to limit weapons, after its supporters previously resorted to motorcycle rallies that roamed the streets of Beirut in protest against the decision.
Informed sources indicated that recent meetings between Hezbollah and envoys of President Joseph Aoun did not yield results, and the party informed the President and Army Commander, Rudolf Hekel, that implementing the "limitation of weapons" means confrontation. They reported that Hezbollah refused to accept even "formal steps" in the issue of weapon limitation.
The Lebanese government approved at the beginning of August this year the limitation of weapons to the state, assigning the army to develop a plan for this purpose by the end of this month, with the aim of completing the handover of weapons by the end of 2025.
