فيما استقبل وفداً من أعضاء مجلسي النواب والشيوخ الأمريكيين بحضور وزير الخارجية والمغتربين سعد حسن الشيباني، أصدر الرئيس السوري أحمد الشرع، اليوم (الثلاثاء)، مرسوماً يقضي بتعيين إبراهيم عبدالملك علبي سفيراً مفوضاً فوق العادة، ومندوباً دائماً لسورية لدى منظمة الأمم المتحدة في نيويورك.
ويعد علبي، المولود في العاصمة السعودية الرياض، من أبرز المحامين الشباب في مجال حقوق الإنسان، وحاصل على درجتي البكالوريوس والماجستير في القانون من جامعة مانشستر البريطانية، ومتخصّص في القانون الدولي والأمن.
وواصل علبي دراسته الأكاديمية بحصوله على ماجستير في السياسات العامة من كلية الحكومة بجامعة أكسفورد، وشغل السفير السوري الجديد مناصب استشارية بارزة، منها عمله في مكتب المفوض السامي لحقوق الإنسان بالأمم المتحدة، ونقابة المحامين الدولية، إضافة إلى عضويته في إدارة المجلس السوري البريطاني.
وشارك السفير السوري الجديد في مؤتمرات دولية مرموقة في جنيف وبروكسل وواشنطن ولندن، وحظي بدعوات شخصية من رؤساء دول مثل ألمانيا والمملكة المتحدة، كما حصل على جوائز مرموقة عدة؛ تقديراً لتفوقه العلمي والأكاديمي.
While receiving a delegation of members from the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate in the presence of Foreign Minister and Expatriates Saad Hassan Al-Shibani, Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara issued a decree today (Tuesday) appointing Ibrahim Abdul-Malik Al-Ali as an extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador and permanent representative of Syria to the United Nations in New York.
Al-Ali, born in the Saudi capital Riyadh, is one of the prominent young lawyers in the field of human rights, holding both a bachelor's and master's degree in law from the University of Manchester in the UK, and specializing in international law and security.
He continued his academic studies by obtaining a master's degree in public policy from the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford. The new Syrian ambassador has held prominent advisory positions, including work at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the International Bar Association, in addition to being a member of the management of the Syrian British Council.
The new Syrian ambassador has participated in prestigious international conferences in Geneva, Brussels, Washington, and London, and has received personal invitations from heads of state such as Germany and the United Kingdom. He has also received several prestigious awards in recognition of his academic and scholarly excellence.
