كشفت وسائل إعلام أمريكية اليوم (الإثنين) عن طبيعة الرسالة التي سلّمها الرئيس الأوكراني فولوديمير زيلينسكي إلى الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب خلال المؤتمر الصحفي في البيت الأبيض، قُبيل لقائه بقادة الدول الأوروبية.
وأفادت وسائل إعلام أمريكية أن زيلينسكي حمل رسالة من زوجته موجّهة إلى السيدة الأمريكية الأولى ميلانيا ترمب، وقدّمها للرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب قبيل انطلاق لقائهما في البيت الأبيض، وهو ما بدا أنه ساهم في تهيئة أجواء أكثر وُدية ورسمية لهذا الاجتماع البارز.
ورغم رمزية الخطوة، إلا أنها ربما لعبت دوراً مهماً في دفع الرئيس الأمريكي إلى تقديم بعض من أقوى تصريحاته حتى الآن بشأن دعم بلاده لأوكرانيا، مؤكداً أن الولايات المتحدة لن تتخلى عنها.
وقال ترمب عندما سُئل عمّا إذا كان اللقاء بحاجة إلى التوصّل إلى حل فوري: «لن تكون نهاية الطريق، الأمر لم ينتهِ بعد»، مؤكداً أنه مسؤول عن قيادة جهود السلام هو والدول الأوروبية.
وشدّد في الوقت ذاته على استمرار الدور الأمريكي في دعم أوكرانيا، لافتاً إلى أن «أوروبا هي خط الدفاع الأول، لأنها هناك، موجودة ميدانياً لكننا سنقدّم لهم الدعم. وسنكون مشاركين أيضاً».
وجاء لقاء ترمب مع زيلينسكي قبل اجتماع موسع يشارك فيه عدد من القادة الأوروبيين، والأمين العام لحلف شمال الأطلسي «الناتو»، وقال زيلينسكي: «نحن بحاجة إلى إنهاء هذه الحرب، وإيقاف روسيا، ونحتاج إلى الدعم من الشركاء الأمريكيين والأوروبيين».

American media reported that Zelensky carried a message from his wife addressed to First Lady Melania Trump, which he presented to President Donald Trump just before their meeting at the White House, which seemed to contribute to creating a more friendly and formal atmosphere for this prominent meeting.
Despite the symbolic nature of the gesture, it may have played an important role in prompting the American president to make some of his strongest statements yet regarding his country's support for Ukraine, affirming that the United States will not abandon it.
Trump stated when asked if the meeting needed to reach an immediate solution: "This will not be the end of the road; it is not over yet," emphasizing that he is responsible for leading peace efforts along with European countries.
At the same time, he stressed the continued American role in supporting Ukraine, noting that "Europe is the first line of defense, because it is there, present on the ground, but we will provide them with support. We will also be participants."
The meeting between Trump and Zelensky came before an expanded meeting involving several European leaders and the Secretary General of NATO, with Zelensky stating: "We need to end this war, stop Russia, and we need support from our American and European partners."
