توفي 33 شخصاً بولاية شرق دارفور السودانية، اليوم (السبت)، جراء موجة الكوليرا التي تجتاح الولاية من أسابيع، وبحسب مصادر طبية ووزارة الصحة السودانية فإن المرض في حالة انتشار واسعة في عدد من مدن الولاية.
وذكرت المصادر أن 15 شخصاً قضوا جراء المرض بمحلية ابوكارنكا شرقي مدينة الضعين، بينهم 9 لاجئين من دولة جنوب السودان، و18 شخصاً آخرين بمحلية شعيرية منطقة خزان جديد شمالي الضعين التي تشهد تدفقاً مستمراً للنازحين القادمين من مدينة الفاشر.
وطالبت وزارة الصحة بشرق دارفور المنظمات الدولية بضرورة التدخل العاجل لمجابهة الوباء، مؤكدة أن الوباء أصبح خارج السيطرة جراء عدم امتلاك الوزارة الإمكانات اللازمة لمكافحة المرض واستمرار هجمات قوات الدعم السريع على المراكز الصحية ومخيمات النزوح.
في غضون ذلك، دشّنت حكومة ولاية الخرطوم اليوم بالتعاون مع وزارة الصحة الاتحادية، حملة كبرى لمكافحة نواقل الأمراض، لتهيئة العودة الآمنة للسكان.
وأوضح وكيل وزارة الصحة الاتحادية، هيثم محمد إبراهيم، أن الحملة تحظى بتمويل كامل من وزارة المالية الاتحادية، وتشمل توفير المبيدات والمعينات التشغيلية والمدخلات الفنية، إضافة إلى تدشين سيارات المعامل، بدعم من منظمة الصحة العالمية ومنظمة «الإيقاد».
وأكد أن هذه الحملة ستنطلق من الخرطوم على أن تمتد لاحقاً إلى ولايات أخرى.
وتضاعفت المخاطر مع نزوح مئات الآلاف من السكان وغياب خدمات الرش الدوري لمكافحة الحشرات.
وكانت تقارير سابقة لمنظمة الصحة العالمية قد حذّرت من ارتفاع غير مسبوق في حالات الملاريا والكوليرا في السودان.
Thirty-three people have died in the East Darfur state of Sudan today (Saturday) due to a cholera outbreak that has been sweeping the state for weeks. According to medical sources and the Sudanese Ministry of Health, the disease is spreading widely in several cities of the state.
Sources reported that 15 people died from the disease in the Abu Karinka locality east of the city of Ad-Daien, including 9 refugees from South Sudan, and 18 others in the Shaeria locality in the New Reservoir area north of Ad-Daien, which is witnessing a continuous influx of displaced persons coming from the city of El Fasher.
The East Darfur Ministry of Health has called on international organizations to urgently intervene to combat the epidemic, confirming that the outbreak has become uncontrollable due to the ministry's lack of necessary resources to combat the disease and the ongoing attacks by the Rapid Support Forces on health centers and displacement camps.
Meanwhile, the Khartoum state government, in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Health, launched a major campaign today to combat disease vectors, to prepare for the safe return of the population.
The Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, explained that the campaign is fully funded by the Federal Ministry of Finance and includes the provision of pesticides, operational supplies, and technical inputs, in addition to the launch of laboratory vehicles, supported by the World Health Organization and the IGAD organization.
He confirmed that this campaign will start from Khartoum and will later extend to other states.
The risks have doubled with the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people and the absence of regular spraying services to combat insects.
Previous reports from the World Health Organization had warned of an unprecedented rise in cases of malaria and cholera in Sudan.
