European leaders expressed their readiness to assist in preparing for a trilateral summit between U.S. President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The leaders welcomed in a statement published on the European Union's website today (Saturday), following a joint call with Trump and Zelensky, the efforts of the U.S. president "to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine, end the Russian war, and achieve a just and lasting peace." They called for further talks involving Zelensky and European sponsorship.

The European leaders demanded strong security guarantees for Ukraine to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, welcoming Trump's announcement regarding his country's readiness to provide security guarantees.

The leaders warned against imposing restrictions on the Ukrainian armed forces or its cooperation with third countries, emphasizing that Russia cannot oppose Ukraine's efforts to join the European Union and NATO. They stressed the necessity of not changing international borders by force.

For her part, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated in a post on the "X" platform that strong security guarantees for Ukraine and Europe are essential for any peace agreement that ends the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Trump briefed EU leaders and Zelensky on the details of his meeting with Putin in Alaska yesterday. Trump revealed that everyone agreed that establishing a peace agreement is better and more important than a ceasefire that may not last long.

The meeting between the U.S. and Russian presidents at a military base in Alaska yesterday ended without disclosing details; however, it did not result in an agreement between them on a ceasefire in Ukraine, although Trump confirmed that they agreed on many important files and issues.

However, Trump clarified that "a very important issue remained unresolved" without disclosing it, despite describing the meeting as wonderful.
