أعلن الرئيس الأمريكي، دونالد ترمب، اليوم (الأربعاء)، عن رغبته بعقد اجتماع ثانٍ مع الرئيسين الروسي فلاديمير بوتين والأوكراني فولوديمير زيلينسكي، إذا سار اجتماعه الأول مع بوتين على نحو جيد، موضحاً أنه من المقرر أن يعقب لقاءه بالرئيس الروسي اتصال بالرئيس زيلينسكي.
وقال ترمب للصحفيين: «إذا سار الاجتماع الأول على نحو جيد سنعقد اجتماعاً ثانياً قريباً، وأود أن أفعل ذلك على الفور»، مضيفاً: سنعقد اجتماعاً ثانياً بين الرئيس بوتين والرئيس زيلينسكي بحضوري إذا كانا يودان وجودي فيه.
وأشار إلى أنه يمكن تحقيق بعض الإنجازات العظيمة في الاجتماع الأول وسيكون اجتماعاً بالغ الأهمية، لكنه يُمهد الطريق لاجتماع ثانٍ، مشيراً إلى وجود اتصال جيد جداً أجراه في وقت سابق مع قادة أوروبيين بينهم زيلينسكي.
وتوعد ترمب روسيا بعواقب خطيرة، إذا لم تسفر القمة الروسية-الأمريكية في ألاسكا يوم 15 أغسطس عن اتفاق تسوية سلمية للأزمة الأوكرانية، مشدداً بالقول: «نعم، العواقب ستكون خطيرة»، لكنه رفض الإفصاح عن طبيعة تلك العواقب.
وقال ترمب: «كانت المكالمة جيدة جداً مع الأوروبيين وكان الرئيس زيلينسكي حاضراً، تقييمي للاتصال بأنه رائع، وودي للغاية».
وكانت وسائل إعلام غربية قد أكدت أن زعماء الولايات المتحدة وأوكرانيا وأوروبا ناقشوا، اليوم، أماكن محتملة لاجتماع متابعة بعد قمة الرئيسين الأمريكي والروسي في ألاسكا هذا الأسبوع، مرجحة أن الأماكن المحتملة تشمل مدناً في أوروبا والشرق الأوسط.
وكان نائب الرئيس الأمريكي جيه دي فانس قد قال في وقت سابق اليوم إن ترمب أبلغه بأن مهمته هي إعادة السلام إلى أوروبا، مضيفاً في كلمة أمام جنود أمريكيين بقاعدة عسكرية في إنجلترا: «لقد تحدثت معه للتو، وقال بكل بساطة إننا سنجعل مهمتنا كإدارة هي إحلال السلام في أوروبا مرة أخرى».
U.S. President Donald Trump announced today (Wednesday) his desire to hold a second meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, if his first meeting with Putin goes well, explaining that a call with President Zelensky is scheduled to follow his meeting with the Russian president.
Trump told reporters: “If the first meeting goes well, we will hold a second meeting soon, and I would like to do that right away,” adding: “We will hold a second meeting between President Putin and President Zelensky in my presence if they would like me to be there.”
He indicated that some great achievements could be made in the first meeting and that it would be extremely important, but it paves the way for a second meeting, noting that he had a very good call earlier with European leaders, including Zelensky.
Trump warned Russia of serious consequences if the Russian-American summit in Alaska on August 15 does not result in a peaceful settlement agreement for the Ukrainian crisis, emphasizing: “Yes, the consequences will be serious,” but he refused to disclose the nature of those consequences.
Trump said: “The call with the Europeans was very good, and President Zelensky was present. My assessment of the call is that it was great and very friendly.”
Western media confirmed that the leaders of the United States, Ukraine, and Europe discussed today potential locations for a follow-up meeting after the U.S. and Russian presidents' summit in Alaska this week, suggesting that potential locations include cities in Europe and the Middle East.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said earlier today that Trump told him his mission is to restore peace in Europe, adding in a speech to American soldiers at a military base in England: “I just spoke with him, and he simply said that we will make our mission as an administration to restore peace in Europe again.”
