توجه الرئيس الأوكراني فولوديمير زيلينسكي إلى برلين، اليوم (الأربعاء)، للمشاركة في اجتماع افتراضي عالي المستوى يستضيفه المستشار الألماني فريدريش ميرز، ويضم الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب وقادة أوروبيين، وذلك قبل يومين من القمة المرتقبة بين ترمب والرئيس الروسي فلاديمير بوتين في ألاسكا يوم الجمعة.
ويسعى القادة الأوروبيون إلى التأكيد على مخاطر التضحية بمصالح كييف في أول قمة أمريكية-روسية منذ عام 2021.
ويأتي هذا الاجتماع في ظل مخاوف أوروبية من أن تتخذ الولايات المتحدة وروسيا قرارات بعيدة المدى دون مشاركة أوكرانيا، التي تحتل روسيا ما يقرب من خُمس أراضيها.
وأشار ترمب إلى أن قمة ألاسكا ستكون بمثابة لقاء استكشافي لدفع جهود وقف إطلاق النار في الحرب الروسية على أوكرانيا، لكنه أثار قلق كييف وأوروبا بتصريحه الأسبوع الماضي بأن أي اتفاق قد يتضمن تبادل بعض الأراضي.
وسيجتمع زيلينسكي مع المستشار الألماني ميرز قبل انطلاق المؤتمر الافتراضي في الساعة 2:00 ظهرًا بتوقيت غرينتش (12:00 بتوقيت وسط أوروبا)، والذي سيضم قادة ألمانيا وفنلندا وفرنسا وبريطانيا وإيطاليا وبولندا والاتحاد الأوروبي، إلى جانب الأمين العام لحلف الناتو مارك روته.
وسينضم ترمب ونائبه جي دي فانس إلى المكالمة في الساعة 3:00 عصرًا بتوقيت غرينتش. كما سيعقد لاحقًا اجتماع افتراضي لـ«تحالف الراغبين»، وهي مجموعة من الدول التي تعمل على خطط لدعم أوكرانيا في حال التوصل إلى وقف إطلاق نار.
وبحسب «رويترز»، أعرب مسؤول كبير من أوروبا الشرقية عن تركيز القادة الأوروبيين على منع أي صفقة غير مواتية لأوكرانيا، مؤكدًا أهمية التنسيق مع الشركاء الأمريكيين والحفاظ على وحدة أوروبية قبل القمة.
ورغم ترحيب القادة الأوروبيين بجهود ترمب لتحقيق السلام، فقد شددوا على ضرورة عدم إبرام أي اتفاق بشأن أوكرانيا دون مشاركتها.
من جانبها، خففت إدارة ترمب من التوقعات بشأن تحقيق تقدم كبير نحو وقف إطلاق النار، واصفة قمة ألاسكا بأنها تمرين استماع لفهم متطلبات التوصل إلى اتفاق.
وكان ترمب قد وافق الأسبوع الماضي على القمة مع بوتين بعد أسابيع من الإحباط بسبب مقاومة الأخير لمبادرة السلام الأمريكية، مشيرًا إلى أن مبعوثه حقق تقدمًا كبيرًا في محادثات موسكو.
في سياق متصل، كشف استطلاع للرأي أجرته مؤسسة غالوب الأسبوع الماضي أن 69% من الأوكرانيين يؤيدون التفاوض لإنهاء الحرب في أقرب وقت ممكن، لكنهم يرفضون التنازلات الكبيرة.
وقال زيلينسكي إن التنازل عن منطقة دونباس الشرقية، التي تسيطر روسيا على جزء كبير منها، سيحرم أوكرانيا من شبكة دفاعية حيوية، مما قد يسهل تقدم روسيا في المستقبل.
وأكد أن أي نقاش حول الأراضي يجب أن يأتي بعد وقف إطلاق النار وتلقي أوكرانيا ضمانات أمنية.
وتتزامن هذه التطورات مع تصاعد الضغط العسكري الروسي على الجبهة الشرقية، حيث شددت القوات الروسية قبضتها على مدينتي بوكروفسك وكوستيانتينيفكا في شرق أوكرانيا.
The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky traveled to Berlin today (Wednesday) to participate in a high-level virtual meeting hosted by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, which includes U.S. President Donald Trump and European leaders, just two days before the anticipated summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday.
European leaders are seeking to emphasize the risks of sacrificing Kyiv's interests at the first U.S.-Russia summit since 2021.
This meeting comes amid European concerns that the United States and Russia might make far-reaching decisions without Ukraine's involvement, which has nearly one-fifth of its territory occupied by Russia.
Trump indicated that the Alaska summit would serve as an exploratory meeting to advance efforts for a ceasefire in the Russian war on Ukraine, but he raised concerns in Kyiv and Europe with his statement last week that any agreement might involve the exchange of some territories.
Zelensky will meet with German Chancellor Merz before the virtual conference begins at 2:00 PM GMT (12:00 PM Central European Time), which will include leaders from Germany, Finland, France, Britain, Italy, Poland, the European Union, along with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
Trump and his Vice President JD Vance will join the call at 3:00 PM GMT. A virtual meeting of the "Coalition of the Willing" will also be held later, which is a group of countries working on plans to support Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire.
According to Reuters, a senior official from Eastern Europe expressed that European leaders are focused on preventing any unfavorable deal for Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of coordinating with American partners and maintaining European unity before the summit.
While European leaders welcomed Trump's efforts for peace, they stressed the necessity of not reaching any agreement regarding Ukraine without its participation.
For its part, the Trump administration has downplayed expectations for significant progress toward a ceasefire, describing the Alaska summit as a listening exercise to understand the requirements for reaching an agreement.
Trump had agreed last week to the summit with Putin after weeks of frustration due to the latter's resistance to the U.S. peace initiative, noting that his envoy had made significant progress in talks in Moscow.
In a related context, a poll conducted by Gallup last week revealed that 69% of Ukrainians support negotiating to end the war as soon as possible, but they reject major concessions.
Zelensky stated that conceding the eastern Donbas region, which Russia controls a large part of, would deprive Ukraine of a vital defensive network, potentially facilitating Russia's advance in the future.
He affirmed that any discussion about territories should come after a ceasefire and Ukraine receiving security guarantees.
These developments coincide with an increase in Russian military pressure on the eastern front, where Russian forces have tightened their grip on the cities of Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka in eastern Ukraine.
