A Syrian soldier was killed in clashes between government forces and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Aleppo.
The Syrian Arab News Agency reported today (Tuesday) that the Ministry of Defense's media and communication department stated: "Two groups affiliated with the SDF infiltrated towards the Syrian army's positions in the Tal Maaz area east of Aleppo, leading to violent clashes in the area, which resulted in the death of one army soldier."
The ministry announced that its forces responded to the sources of fire and thwarted the infiltration attempt, accusing the SDF of continuing to target army positions in Manbij and Deir Hafer, and of closing some roads in Aleppo daily and violating agreements.
For its part, the SDF and the Asayish internal security forces declared a state of combat readiness in all areas under their control in northern and eastern Syria, holding the SDF leadership in Damascus responsible for what it described as provocations against the Kurds and repeated violations of the ceasefire.
The SDF leadership stated in a statement: "If Damascus continues to attack, the Syrian Democratic Forces will be forced to take what they described as self-defense measures."
The SDF called on the Syrian government not to allow the disruption of the agreements and understandings reached, to refrain from any actions that could lead to an escalation of tensions, and to maintain civil peace in Aleppo and other areas.
Amid the tension between the Syrian government and the self-administration of northern and eastern Syria, stemming from the conference held in Hasakah recently, which included politicians, tribal leaders, and religious figures, and which Damascus strongly opposed its outcomes, a Kurdish official confirmed that negotiations between the two sides are still ongoing.
Deputy Co-President of the Self-Administration for Foreign Affairs, Bedran Jiya Kurd, stated: "Negotiations with Damascus are still ongoing, but they are proceeding slowly," as he described it.
He pointed out that the self-administration prefers to resolve outstanding issues through negotiations and understandings, and is ready to continue down this path, indicating that the SDF delegation does not reject participation in the upcoming Paris talks from which Damascus withdrew before the French authorities announced their date.
The Kurdish official noted that the self-administration calls for a democratic, pluralistic, decentralized political solution and a constitution that guarantees the rights of all components. He considered that this diversity and its cohesion within a comprehensive national framework constitute a source of strength and success in facing the challenges facing the country.
