بدأت بريطانيا في تنفيذ اتفاق «واحد مقابل واحد» الجديد الذي يقضي باحتجاز المهاجرين عند وصولهم إلى بريطانيا وترحيلهم إلى فرنسا.
واحتجزت بريطانيا أمس (الأربعاء) أول مجموعة من المهاجرين وصلت إلى المملكة المتحدة بعد عبور بحر المانش. وبحسب وكالة الأنباء البريطانية فإن هذه المجموعة وصلت في اليوم الأول لدخول الاتفاق مع فرنسا حيز التنفيذ بعد مصادقة المفوضية الأوروبية عليه.
وقالت وزيرة الداخلية البريطانية إيفات كوبرو: «وفقاً لبنود هذه المعاهدة الجديدة الرائدة، تم احتجاز أول مجموعة من الأشخاص الذين يعبرون بحر المانش عقب وصولهم ويسترن جيت فويل، وسيستمر احتجازهم لحين إعادتهم إلى فرنسا».
وأضافت: «الاتفاق يبعث رسالة إلى كل مهاجر يفكر حالياً في دفع أموال لعصابات الجريمة المنظمة للذهاب إلى المملكة المتحدة بأنه سوف يخاطر بحياته ويهدر أمواله إذا استقل قارباً صغيراً».
وبحسب اتفاق «واحد مقابل واحد» فإنه على بريطانيا إرجاع كل مهاجر يصل بزورق صغير قادماً من فرنسا، مقابل تعهد لندن أن تأخذ محله طالب لجوء لديه روابط، خصوصا عائلية، ببريطانيا يعرب عن رغبته عبر منصة إلكترونية الانتقال إلى هذا البلد.
وكان أكثر من 24 ألف مهاجر قد وصلوا منذ مطلع العام الحالي إلى بريطانيا عبر بحر المانش.
Britain has begun implementing the new "one for one" agreement, which stipulates the detention of migrants upon their arrival in Britain and their deportation to France.
Yesterday (Wednesday), Britain detained the first group of migrants who arrived in the United Kingdom after crossing the English Channel. According to the British news agency, this group arrived on the first day of the agreement with France coming into effect after the European Commission approved it.
British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said: "Under the terms of this pioneering new treaty, the first group of people crossing the English Channel has been detained upon their arrival at Western Jet Foil, and they will remain in detention until they are returned to France."
She added: "The agreement sends a message to every migrant currently considering paying money to organized crime gangs to come to the United Kingdom that they will risk their lives and waste their money if they board a small boat."
According to the "one for one" agreement, Britain must return every migrant who arrives by small boat from France, in exchange for London committing to take in a refugee who has connections, particularly family ties, to Britain and expresses a desire to move to this country through an online platform.
More than 24,000 migrants have arrived in Britain via the English Channel since the beginning of this year.
