After nighttime clashes and escalation between the Syrian army and the Syrian Democratic Forces, calm returned to the countryside of Aleppo today (Sunday).
The Syrian Defense announced that it had carried out precise strikes targeting the sources of fire used by "SDF" in shelling the village of al-Kiyaria and its surroundings in the countryside of Manbij, while the latter confirmed that it had exercised its right to self-defense.
The Ministry of Defense reported on Saturday evening that an attack carried out by the Syrian Democratic Forces in the countryside of Manbij resulted in the injury of four army personnel and three civilians.
The Media and Communication Administration stated that the Syrian Democratic Forces carried out "rocket strikes targeting the homes of civilians in the village of al-Kiyaria and its surroundings in the countryside of Manbij irresponsibly and for unknown reasons, resulting in injuries to 4 army personnel and 3 civilians with varying degrees of wounds," according to the Syrian news agency "SANA".
It added that army units carried out precise strikes targeting the sources of fire used by the "SDF" in shelling the village of al-Kiyaria and its surroundings in the countryside of Manbij. It confirmed that the forces were able to detect a rocket launcher and a field gun that were used in the attack around the city of Maskanah located east of Aleppo Governorate.
For its part, the "SDF" rejected the statements of the Syrian Ministry of Defense regarding the attack on its positions by the Syrian Democratic Forces. It stated in a statement that our forces are exercising their right to legitimate defense after the attacks in Deir Hafer. It mentioned that undisciplined factions continue their provocations in the contact areas in Deir Hafer. It emphasized the necessity of respecting the ceasefire and called for controlling the undisciplined factions.
Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara and the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, signed an agreement on March 10 of last year, which stipulated guaranteeing the rights of all Syrians in representation and participation in the political process and all state institutions based on competence, regardless of their religious and ethnic backgrounds. It also stated that the Kurdish community is an integral community in the Syrian state, and that the Syrian state must guarantee its right to citizenship and all its constitutional rights.
The agreement included a ceasefire across all Syrian territories, and the integration of all civil and military institutions in northeastern Syria under the administration of the Syrian state, including border crossings, the airport, and oil and gas fields. This agreement also included provisions to guarantee the return of all displaced Syrians to their towns and their protection by the state. It emphasized combating the remnants of the previous regime, rejecting calls for division, hate speech, and attempts to sow discord, in addition to forming executive committees to implement the agreement by the end of this year.
