Displacement of more than 3,500 families
A government official in Daraa governorate confirmed yesterday, Monday, the displacement of more than 3,500 families of Bedouins and Druze from their homes in Sweida governorate to Daraa governorate in southern Syria.
It is noteworthy that tensions in southern Syria escalated on July 13, after clashes broke out in Sweida governorate between Bedouin tribes and Druze militants.
On July 15, Syrian security forces entered the city of Sweida to stabilize the situation, but shortly thereafter, Israel began targeting Syrian military vehicles heading to the governorate and bombed several strategic sites in the Syrian capital on July 16 until the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced on the evening of July 16 the withdrawal of all military forces from the city of Sweida, in accordance with a ceasefire agreement that was reached despite ongoing clashes between the Bedouins and Druze factions. Then, early on Friday, a new agreement was announced in Sweida, after which security forces entered to disengage with the withdrawal of the tribes.
